Mothers abandon their litters because they've had too many, and they simply can't sustain themselves as well as any more babies. Look out for a very thin cat with hip bones jutting painfully through her fur, and you've probably got your mother.

I've hand reared kittens. I got a small feeding bottle and kitty milk (just like baby milk - powdered in a tin). Before they had the bottles in stock I used a medicine syringe. I found they were happier the faster the milk flowed.

One kitten went bald through stress. He was checked by the vet, and was healthy but hairless. When the hair grew back, it was grey. Oddly, he only lost the hair on his body, so he was left with black head, tail and legs and a grey bod - he was really cute, and we named him Colin.

Good luck, you're doing a marvellous thing, I hope you get on OK.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.

I don't know where you live but the RSPCA have a reputation for putting healthy animals to sleep. The Cats Protection don't do this and there will be other organisations in your area that will do everything they can to take good care of the kittens and provide them with a good home and wonderful life.

You're doing a fantastic job of looking after them and even though it will be hard to feed them you sound like you're really enjoying them too - even better that your OH is helping out.

Just wondering how you are getting on Webitha? Haven't looked in on this thread since last night as got called in to work suddenly, but am back now and would love an update.

I see that a couple of posts from a non helpful poster have been removed too! Ah well, thanks to whoever reported that rude, insolent moron!

I don't report actually, because I do feel we are all entitled to our opinion and had just left the matter as agreeing to disagree and definitely I wasn't going to waste my valuable time replying to his/her posts.

Hope it's all going well webitha :)
