I have a Worcester Boiler. Foolishly when I went away last Monday I turned the heating completely off (I have underfloor heating)

I came back last night to a freezing house and turned it on to its highest setting, left it on the 'on' setting and this morning it was only at 16 degrees by the thermometer in the sitting room. (Did not check heat last night and put a fan heater on for the first time ever here)

It has just crept up to 18 degrees.

The temperature is now 21 degrees - it still feels cold in the room, I prefer 23 degrees so hoping it won't be too long before it gets to that temperature.

It depends how warm you want it too! I keep mine about 18/19. I feel ill if I have it any warmer, but it doesn't go much below 15/16 when it's off. Takes about half an hour if it's been off.

Now it is 22 degrees, it is taking its time to get to 23

23 is awfully hot and very expensive (esp in older houses). We run the house at +/-20 (downstairs) but that temp is maintained 24/7 via a GSHP. Upstairs the heating is off apart from the towel warmers.

You will save a heck of a lot of money turning the thermostat down. Is your house draughty?

    21C

If I had the house that warm I'd have to open some windows to let some fresh air in.

Old house - get's cold quick - but I have the heating set to come on half an hour before I get home. Gets the temperature up to a pleasant 18C.

We have a 2009 built house end terrace so insulated up to the standards of the day.

If the heating is off the house will settle to about 10 deg... And take about 3 hours to heat back up to 18/19 deg...

But no matter what the temp... (In the winter)... We all have our thermal socks (TK max £1) our ski base layer (£5 from "go outdoors") our t shirts and jumpers... The whole family have clothes available to put on should anyone feel cold... No way will I allow the heating to be turned up if especially if there is still a spare jumper in the house...

Do you think I have been on MSE too long ?? Lol

It is not an old house but an modern apartment and the main room is open plan. No draughts but the room feels cold. One of the bedrooms always feels warmer.

Today the room is 20 degrees according to the thermometer. The thermostat is set at 24.

I'm sure there is something odd about the heating here as when it does get to temperature I can switch off the heating at about 4 in the afternoon and it maintains it all evening. If I leave the heating on, the room just gets hotter and hotter.

not very qucikly :( It takes about 4 hours to heat up the living room to temp of 16 degrees :/ (and the same time to heat up my bedroom to 14 degrees  normally it's about 12 degrees in it)

but I think is becasuse my house is very very very cold, windows are not very good, no insulation on the floor, roof is insulated with only one layer...

It is still only 20 degrees. However, I went into the bathroom and that was really lovely. It does have a large towel rail though (like a rack) as well which cannot be turned off but the floor was really warm too.

I am in the penthouse apartment as well so have sloping walls and a high ceiling too. I am not attached to any neighbours apartments except the one below me - three sides of the apartment are outside walls, and two out of four of my open plan living space walls are outside walls.
