I'm just working my way through Full House and have encountered a dreaded cryptic crossword
I am useless at them, they are just jibberish to me! :rotfl:
Is anyone any good at them and if so would they mind taking a look please? Id be ever so grateful. No rush, I need to finish off the rest of the puzzles and do all the typing up, the closing date for the mag is 16/04.
Many thanks

Poppy how rude. Alison kindly gives her time up to complete these puzzles for members of the forum. Something she doesn't haveto do. I don't think anyone will object to her asking for help when it benefits us all£2 Savers Club for 2022 #120

How is my comment rude! Did I call her a name or insult her?
The only person rude here is you.
Normally when someone has a thread titled "cryptic crossword help" they are missing one or two answers!

break the question down. Cryptic can actually be easier than "knowledge" crosswords
Take 1 a
Nearest bar? What's another name for a bar = pub. What do you call your nearby pub = local. Therefore first word could be "local"
For some reason though I think it's "public" !!!
I'm struggling to read it though and as the print is very small and I would normally pencil in probable answers and see how they fit as often you change your mind. i.e. 1 d could be "pope"

Right ok, I've got that bit, what do I do with the other bit of the clue "crazy for puzzles"? How does that part work out please?0 -

crazy = mad. Mad people go to "asylums" but can't see how that ties in with puzzles!! I'm thinking about it. That's the fun of cryptic, often you get an instinctive answer but it doesn't quite fit!

The answer to 1 across is Brain Teasers
The word crazy means that the words "nearest bar is" should be mixed up, i.e. it's an anagram and the rearranged letters form words meaning "puzzles"
Sorry but the clues are too small for my deteriorating eyes to make out.0 -
31 across is owls
61 down is spaghetti0 -
Its so confusing, give me a normal crossword any day! I kind of get what your saying a bit. Do you know a definite answer to any of the clues then I might be able to understand it a bit better?0
