This report's from a few months ago.

I've always wondered how accurate those service records are. If a bank isn't recording complaints properly then they'll obviously have a better service record than those that record every complaint.

It's a fair challenge.

The FSA do audit the actions of the banks and the accuracy of the figures.

I like Lloyds complaints procedure. They opened a classic account for me instead of a vantage and when I phoned to query it they automatically opened a complaint, gave me £20 interest (not bad for 5 days) £15 for time and trouble and £5 for the telephone call and said it would be open the next day

It wasn't but was scheduled for the day after so they prompted me to make another complaint and bunged me another £15. I'd only been a customer for less than a week and had the equivalent of nearly 6 months interest

I've never had a problem with barclays. I left the Halifax due to rude branch staff, the time it took to set up online banking, and a gestapo approach in trying to force people to use their automated paying in machines. Yes I could get £60 out of them but I'm happy to forego that for a much better service I receive from my local barclays branch. But I do recognise that the standard of service is very variable depending often upon the attitude of the local branch.
