I've been off work with the kids this week and we've been to Caernarfon, Bangor, Holyhead, Prestatyn and Rhyl (yeh, I know) and all were completely snow free. There has been a bit of snow falling from the skies, especially in Prestatyn the other day, but nothing on the ground. It seems that conditions have been really bad in North East Wales (around Wrexham, Llangollen, etc) but North West Wales has more or less completely escaped the snow, other than in the mountains.

At present we have bright blue skies and blazing sunshine so anyone coming to North West Wales this weekend should hopefully have some decent weather.

These photos were taken in Caernarfon on Monday -

With regards the journey there it was good, we had to go the long way past Colwyn bay going because the A5 was closed but this was open on the journey home.

With regards the site itself i would say it was ok, we have stayed at many Havens so knew what to expect but this was miles from anywhere. We found purselves quite isolated and because it was quite breezy stayed in most days.

There are the normal things to do swimming pool was a great hit with the kids, and they do a free inflatable 1/2 hour which we missed. The adventure golf was £12 for a family. Entertainment was a little spread out one for younger children one for older children.

Overall the normal Haven site just not much to do locally which was a shame.

Hope this helps if you would like to know more just let's know.

I think you maybe needed to do a bit of homework as there's quite a lot to do around Hafan-y-Mor, although maybe the tourist season isn't up to full swing just yet.

Firstly the town of Pwllheli is only a couple of miles of away. It's not the biggest town admittedly but it has supermarkets, shops, cafes, restaurants and a little funfair in the town centre.

Elsewhere within five miles or so of Hafan-y-Mor you've got Portmeirion, Glasfryn Park, Criccieth Castle, The Dwyfor Ranch Rabbit Farm and Animal Park, the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways, the Porthmadog Maritime Museum and my kid's favourite the Lloyd George Museum. All of those are a fifteen minute drive or less from HyM or a short bus ride or train ride from Penychain station.

  • We're coming to Hafan Y Mor tomorrow for a long weekend. We are hoping to do some walking (beaches, hills etc) maybe visit Plas y Rhiw. Also nature reserve in Pwllheli sounds good. So there's plenty for us to do :)
:D Skint but happy with my lovely family :D

We have been to H Y M before many times and love it and the area...

lots of castles to visit for the kids with our English Heritage membership which covers Wales too after the first year...

I was wondering if there is still snow on the ground as i know the site is spread out and so lots of walking between areas....

Here in the Peak District the snow is still think so it would be good to get out of the snow for a while now it is April.

I went from Colwyn Bay to Caernarfon last Monday and there was no sign of any snow close to sea level anywhere along the coast so I'd be extremely surprised if there was any at Hafan-y-Mor. There was very little snow anywhere in North West Wales other than up in the mountains. I think North West Wales' share of the snow all fell on North East Wales instead :).

thank you - it will be good to be out of the snow line - it is depressing now driving through lanes with 6foot of snow piled either side....fields full of snow still,....the hens want to eat grass again..and the kids want to bike ride.

so I am looking forward to H y M... it will be great to see the sea..

Just packing now so the usual thermals, wellies, boots, jumpers of a uk seaside holiday..

and if anyone fancies a snowy easter break - the hills of the peak district are full of it - but hill walking is dodgy as we are on avalanche alert :(
