Hafan y mor break - bad weather

We are due to go on a short break on Monday to Hafan Y Mor in North Wales on Monday (25th) until Friday (29th). I'm worried now that the weather in Wales is going to be too bad to travel. I am going to be driving from the midlands. Any body in the local area who can let me know what it's like?

Will Haven refund me if offer another break if I can't make it because of the weather. Any advice please. My kids were really looking forward to it.

My gut feeling is that they wouldn't refund. Unless they cancel from their side. We are due at Greenacres on Monday, travelling from Midlands also so keeping a keen eye on the weather. Our booking includes a Holiday Protection Plan but only seems to cover sickness, jury service or job loss.

We have never been to Wales and the kids are really looking forward to it but I'm not sure what to do for the best. Do I ring the park and ask them what conditions are like or do I just risk it and take it slow. What are you going to do????

Ring the park and ask them what local conditions are like. The snow seems to be forecast only for the next couple of days so [fingers crossed] it should be ok. Looking at the BBC Travel webcams most motorways seem clear and open.

Thanks greenface, that's really reassuring. Hopefully we will be OK, savingsp, your park is just a bit further on isn't it? Raining and cold might be the lesser of two evils!

Just checked theWelsh highways agency website and it says the A5 is currently closed in both directions (that is our route in) due to adverse weather conditions, it's not looking good at the moment :-(

The A5 goes up into the mountains, especially if you go through Blaenau FFestiniog. We were there last week and the temp dropped 5degC from Chester to Blaenau, where weather changed from clear to blowing a whiteout.
What about Corwen-Bala-Barmouth, then up the coast road?

The a5 is closed from llangollen to Corwen - you'll have to go on a483 near Chirk and go via the coast (a55)

Thanks for the advice, I've looked at the map and the coast road a55 looks the best route, a longer way round but hopefully not too much longer. Thanks everyone

  • Just travelled from Barmouth to Wrexham today via the recently re opened A5 through Llangollen. A bit tight in places particularly when 2 lorries meet and quite a bit of slush still on the roads. However the roads around Porthmadog and Pwllheli are snow free. If youre travelling from the Midlands the best route is M54 then A458 through Welshpool to Mallwyd, A470 over the Bwlch pass in Dinas Mawddwy and carry on up through Trawsfynydd to Porthmadog or Pwllheli. We are doing this route in reverse tomorrow and friends travelled down on Sunday to here with no problems so I know its running relatively clear, unlike many roads around Wrexham, Llangollen and Corwen and on through Snowdonia.
I don't know if I'm getting better or just used to the pain.
    Bipolar for all
