Can you assist with a bit of advice, please. My Dad has finally been diagnosed with Alzheimer's after many years of issues. My husband & I moved in with him 12 months ago after my Mum, his carer, died suddenly. Now we knew we were in for a long difficult time with him, but now we have his diagnosis, we know there may come a time when he cannot stay living at home. We hadn't planned for this, we thought we'd always be able to look after him, but recently he's become very aggressive towards me. We gave up our business & rented home to care for him. We live off our fast diminishing savings & care allowance.
Today Social Services accessed him & informed us that if he did go into care in the future, as this house is our only home, it would not have to be sold to fund his care - is that correct? He owns the house outright, but my husband & I are the only beneficiaries.

If someone else living in the house is of pension age or disabled then the house value isn't taken into consideration. If that doesn't apply then it will be taken into account.:(
Does he get AA as that will continue as he will be self-funding.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

I don't know but if they aren't able to exlude the property he definitely will be and of course may have savings as well . I should have put if he will be self-funding but that doesn't make much difference.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

Both my husband & I are 50. I presumed Dad would be self funding in the care home as he has a private pension & owns his own home. So the social worker is wrong in our case, the house would have to be sold? The social worker said we wouldn't be out on the street, but clearly we would!0

Doesn't have to be actually sold. They can put a charge on it for when your dad passes away. Then his estate is liable. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0

Depends on how much his pension(s) are along with AA and I presume you pay rent or board to him?
Is he willing to go into a care home?Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

No we don't pay him rent - we have no income as we gave up our business to care full time for him.
We are looking ahead to a time when perhaps he is so aggressive it's not possible to stay with us. Hopefully it won't come to that, but who knows. So I can't say if that happens will he be capable of saying he does/doesn't want to go into care.0
