Wilkinsons
Don't know if anyone is interested but just went to Wilkinsons to get some pots and they have the last of their bulbs and some fruit bushes that are half price. Managed to get a pack of 52 variety bulbs for £1.50.

Wilkinson's - I haven't been for ages and must have a look. Their website is .. er.. uninformative (I'm being kind - it's less that useless.)
The last time I went, I picked up some trellis fencing and it was half the price of B&Q. I-Man's right, though - they are very careless with plants and forget to water them, or else put them outside during the day and back into the hot store at night. But they can be rescued.
Thanks Lynseydee!

My local one is always running out of stock particularly garden stuff. I managed to get some large decorated pots in March but since going back every week they have only the small ones, and even plain pots about 6in across they only had two in when I wanted half a dozen.
I no there great for getting things for you, had to order some decking oil and a bench came within a couple of days but I wish they fill the shelves up.
I have already had to buy some large decorated pots else fortunately as it was BOGOF at local garden centre it wasn't far off there prices, however I wont go back there as the short change me and ripped me off with no free 99p alpine plant if you buy something with the local rag advert that weekend.
I thought when I picked the alpine plant they wouldn't charge me as it was 99p. Okay not a lot, but its the principle, the women didn't know if she was coming or going, and I just didn't want to cause a scene.0 -
I could list the things that annoy me when I study the way they keep plants, but I think the worst must be when they put plants 10" (or whatever) in a space a shade shorter and bend them down, so already they are being mistreated, what about growth and light for those at the back.
I actually commented to the regular assistant recently that I hadn't recognised one plant. She replied " I don't know the first thing about plants, but I haven't had a complaint yet and I've been on this section 13 yrs".
Palms have dried this leaves, compost is so dry there is a space between it and the container, leaves are shriveled, they were still had on sale, plants with no leaves just brown flower buds.
Here it is not 7.15am and you've got me worked up about soddin plants, I must go away. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I wasn't intending to rile anyone, just thought someone might like a bargain on bulbs

The only time I buy my plants is when they have been reduced and all it has taken is a bit of tlc when I've gotten them home. Also if I do manage to "kill them off" then at least I haven't spent loads of money on them. All the plants in my garden were either reduced or given to me by friends and family. True moneysaving

Oh dear me, don't take it personally, it was me just thinking about Wilko's and their apparant total lack of understanding and appreciation of how some people work years to grow things, and they then allow people with little or no knowledge of gardening, to allow the plants to suffer and die. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I was hoping to get them planted this weekend along with some gladioli bulbs I've got but the weather has been pretty wet here this weekend. I'm sure you could store them for next year as my gladioli bulbs were delivered around the summer last year and I checked them yesterday and they were still hard.Did owe £9,951.96

Well, I went and I got some bulbs. Oh boy, most of them were in a state (fungus, rot and shrivelled specimens), but there were some absolute beauts if you looked carefully. I got some gorgeous Eucomis (Pineapple Lily), begonias and dahlias to fill some gaps.
Good call, LD.0
