ATM Error - £300 not paid out

Some people never learn.
What exactly am I supposed to have learned?
I have learned that the particular ATM that I used is faulty. I have learned that all ATM failures are not catastrophic and that there is a good chance of not losing out (perhaps there is no chance of losing out). I have learned that even when there is a problem using somebody else's card that Santander customer service staff are quite happy to help if the initial contact is from the account holder.
I already knew about the T&C's for the use of bank cards and the risks of breaching those terms but in the circumstances it was decided that it was worth taking the risk. Nothing has changed that opinion.0 -
I agree you have not learned anything.
For example should there be a real fraud on her account why would they refund her when it is known that she willingly gave her card and PIN to a third party previously.
When she is well enough I strongly suggest you get her to change the PIN number, if she is not going to get well enough arrange 3rd party access whereby both parties will be covered.0 -

I've had the same thing happen at a Santander cash machine before. Took 3 days to get my money back (Halifax) having reported it over the phone.
My mate who used it after me with the same "going through the motions and no cash scenario" had the transaction instantaneously reversed (HSBC).0 -

The only bank that can reverse the ATM transaction is Santander when its one of their ATMS.
So your senario is that the 1st trans was not reversed by the ATM. The 2nd one was.
Has nothing to do with who you bank with.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -

I am very surprised your m8 used the same machine after you :rotfl:"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

'cash-trapping'
It's a crime reaching epidemic levels in Europe.....that's probably what happened to most of you who thought the machine was faulty (assuming you weren't automatically re-credited). If you want cash, best get it inside the bank or as cashback at the supermarket.''He who takes no offence at anyone either on account of their faults, or on account of his own suspicious thoughts, has knowledge of God and of things devine.''0 -

It was quite a "brave" thing to do - but reassuring when I was sweating on the refund (knowing that his transaction history would be useful evidence if needed).
I had another case with £10 involved and NatWest looked into it and said the machine balanced (but gave it back to me "as a gesture of goodwill").0
