They only know whose money it is when that person raises a claim.
Well, there was an earlier post that said much the same as katebl does. That there is some way of actually seeing which transactions failed. That is reassuring, but you do wonder about these things.
If they are so risk free then i) why do they fail in the first place ii) if the info is there, why can't the accounts be re-credited automatically.0 -

If the ATM failed then who's to say the refund-tracking system won't fail too?
I can't speak for everyone else here, but I'm only asking lots of questions and what if's because I hope you will consider every eventuality and manage to sort out the problem; clearly there will be more of a chance of this getting resolved if she reports the problem (which I see she has now done!)What will your verse be?

The purge can be a result of something as simple as a folded note (before loading the cash trays you are meant to check they are all straight and lined up), but the transaction (and resultant failure) will always be recorded. It makes a list of every single transaction the machine makes, if I recall correctly it records balance enquiry, ministatement, cash withdrawals, all with card details, date, and time. Reasonably easy to track.0

Windows O/S can never be classed as risk free :rotfl:
The systems should auto correct. But it is well known that many do not.
But if its not auto corrected then the manual audit by branch staff should pick up and resolve the issue.
But as many a person who I have spoken to has said.... Branch staff say it always auto corrects.... Yea thats why I spend part of my day setting up a claim for miss/non dispense of funds.
Never mind Barclays ATM's which debit, credit and then redebit when no cash comes out. Co-op ATM's that have been known to send cash out mins later.....Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -
Just to let everybody know. I have just checked and the account has been credited with the £300. I used the Lloyds TSB machine over the road to withdraw the cash!
Thanks for all the support and help.0 -

That's great news, cyberbird! I'm so glad you got this sorted.
I've been reading this with interest and some puzzlement because a similar-ish thing happened to me recently and the bank simply took my word for it when I called that I'd not been credited with the money and it was in my account the next working day.
In your case (and the bank may have said otherwise now so correct me if I'm wrong) I would not be at all surprised if what had happened was a passer-by effectively stole the money when it popped out several hours later - which would explain why things may have initially looked 'OK' to the bank...0 -

Some ATM's take upto 48 hours to update. This could be due to staff looking at the log and reversing the transaction. Rather than the ATM doing it automaticly.I would not be at all surprised if what had happened was a passer-by effectively stole the money when it popped out several hours later - which would explain why things may have initially looked 'OK' to the bank...
Money does not pop out hours later :rotfl:
Unless the ATM does a audit after the transaction, it will look OK to the bank.
Only after it updates will it adjust the customers account.
Many do not do this.
Hence why I have a job in resolving issues such as this.By cyberbird.... I used the Lloyds TSB machine over the road to withdraw the cash!
2nd sentance.....
So it sounds like cyberbird, is still using a card that they are not entitled to.
Given Santanders stance on PIN being divulged (can't even have the same elsewhere or accross card). This is very dangerous ground if anything was to happen to the card. Could even give them grounds to not refund on CNP fraud as well. As they could believe that the person other them the account holder has made these transactions.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0
