Please help with my Flogas LPG Bill

Hello all,

I have searched these forums but not got a definitive answer so I will start at the beginning with some stats.
We live in a rented South facing 2 bed flat. There is a flat above us, a flat below us, a flat to the North of us. Our main living room is south facing and so is our kitchen. According to our Thermostat the temp rarely goes below 18 degrees in this place even in the winter. It is cold and raining outside and it is still 18 degrees in here right now. We were expecting to save a fortune in heating. No such luck.

This is how I have my thermostat set up as well, just so we are clear.

5:30 am 19 degrees until,
7:30 am 10 degrees until,
4:30 pm 19 degrees until,
9:30 pm 15 degrees until
5:30 am back to 19 degrees.

Now bear in mind that according to the thermostat this flat rearely goes below 18 degrees so most of the time the heating is not coming on.

Now and again we have put it on for a couple of hours at about 7pm until we go to bed at 10pm at a temp 22 degrees, no more. Everything bar the shower and heating is Electric.

Now, this is the first south facing surrounded flat we have had and for the last 2 to 3 years we have lived in east and north facing houses and had the heating on all the time pretty much and our bills never went over £40 per month with any supplier we went with. Sometimes we even had the heating up to 25 degrees.

We both work all day but this doesnt really matter as we use a thermostat. So you would expect our bill to be pretty low with those temps right? Wrong.

Flo gas have sent us this.....

For 48 days since we moved in.....

Units used 29
Usage in Cubic Meters 82.1
Usage in Litres 316.09

Price Per Cubic Meter 228.61
Price Per Litre 59.38

Standing Charge = 6.53

Total Goods inc VAT = 203.93

These are not estimated bills, we gave the reading when we moved in and gave them a reading before the bill. On the bill the readings have C for Customer next to them.

FOR 48 DAYS?!

Please someone tell me what is wrong here. What is the average use per month in litres for shower and heating only? Our bills have gone up by nearly £100 per month! Our routines are the same, the flat is much warmer than the other two so there is less need for heating even in winter times. This is just not right! Someone please help.

Thanks
James and Jo

  • Would I be right in thinking you are on a metered estate in contract with Flogas? Certainly the ppl of 59.38 is very high.

Perhaps post this on the LPG sticky thread for best advice but count yourself lucky you are in a flat and summer/autum bills will be considerably lower.

Unfortunately LPG is extremely expensive especially at the ppl price you are paying. You should be aiming to pay in the 40's.

Posted by someone who has been burned by the sheer cost of LPG in the past :)
  • I am in a pub conversion, 6 flats, all using the same tank, seperate meters. Cant move to a diff supplier unless everyone else agrees (just found that out)

By the way, I thought this was the LPG thread?

When we first moved into our detached house a number of years ago LPG was about £200pm averaged over a year with minimal use to the point it was uncomfortably cold. The price goes up regularly if you don't shop around or in your case get everyone on your metered estate involved in a switch.

    Cheers
