Motability Car

We have 3 children who all have a diagnosis of Autism and all 3 receive lower rate component of mobility. I understand you need to receive the higher rate of mobility to get a motability car but have heard of people appealing and getting a car while on the lower rate being in a similar situation as we are. Does anybody have any experience of this or know of how we may go about appealing to motability to get a car.

Tried that and they just said we are not eligible.0 -
To qualify for motability you have to be in reciept of HRM. Maybe appeal the DLA decision? Good luck.0

- currently HRDLA is a minimum requirement for Motability
- I have never heard of an appeal doing what you suggest with LRDLA
There are 3 reasons allowed for a Motability appeal, one of which fits your appeal criteria, that of - 'been refused entry to the Scheme in the first instance' Submitting an appeal is easy just go here and fill in the 3 sections. None of the appeal information is intrusive, for example they don't take account of your two working parents status, or your income of £35000+ pa wage income plus other state help.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. OP, if you do go down the route of appealing refusal of entry to the Scheme, I'd be interested to hear the outcome of that appeal. Can you try to remember to update the thread please :heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

There is no way you will be eligible for the Motability scheme on L rate mob. It's just the way it is.....sorry.
Are your children unable, or virtually unable to walk?0 -

They can all walk but our argument is base don the fact we have 3 kids with Autism, all of whom have difficulties in walking and getting around. They all get tired after short distances and hang off you for support, they have no awareness of danger or any road sense, they are very vulnerable and will never be able to use public transport.
We had a phone call from the Motability scheme and they said again that we are not eligible. The woman did say she can see our point and having three kids with the difficulties they have should possibly warrant us having a car under the scheme.
We now have to decide if we are going to appeal the decision of one of the kids mobility rates to see if we can be awarded the higher rate although I think on an individual basis it is unlikely and may ask if they can look at it as a group case rather than individually.0 -

- they can't even consider looking at it as a group
- a reconsideration can reduce / increase / or do nothingDisclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion.
