Canging to Galaxy Y from iphone.

I've just been offered my dream job, unfortunately my income is about to halve as a result!

This means pulling my belt in a bit so I'm looking at changing my mobile contract.

I currently have an Iphone 4 with unlimited data, and generous text and calls allowance and pay around £35 per month.

I find I'm constantly fiddling with my iphone on facebook and forums etc. I use apps like map my walk etc and regularly use the internet. Its fair to say, I do love my iphone, it's a luxury I do enjoy.

My son has recently got a galaxy y on tesco for £7.50 per month. Its made me wonder if I could manage with one of thes. Trouble is I don't really understand how the data allowance works it only has 500mb data.

Does the data allowance get used if it is connected to the wifi? If its connected to wifi and 3G does it default to wifi or use the 3G.

We all have viber installed on our phones, does using viber use the data allowance?

I'm so confused, the phone is a big saving, but I obviously dont want to make the change to an inferior phone if I'm going to go over the data allowance every month.

Any advice?

Why don't you just keep the iphone? Even older iPhones are significantly better than the galaxy y. Make sure it's unlocked then go for a sim only on 3 or virgin which are good value. Otherwise pay as you go with giff gaff is an excellent alternative. Any of these options would save you a good £20 a month without seeing you committed to a 24 month contract.

First off, are you outside your min term w your iphone? If not, you can't cancel and will need to keep paying until the term is up.

If not you don't need to get rid of your iphone, just get a sim only deal. I use my phone quite a lot (also an iphone 4) and I prob use just under 1gb a month (tho I dont watch videos or use it download), so you might feel stretched @ 500mb. Check your old bills and see how much youa re using. If it's more, try giff gaff where you get 250 mins. unlim texts and 1gb data for £10 a month. It's PAYG so no contract

Have you already finished serving the minimum term? If so, why do you keep paying £35? If not, you can't consider a new contract before your minimum term expires.

No. Neither is it for iPhone.

    To WiFi

    Yes, if not on WiFi.

If you set everything correctly (including updates on WiFi only) and don't stream video/music while on the move, 500Mb is normally a sufficient allowance.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I've just looked at three and found a sim only monthly contract with unlimited data, 5000 texts and 200 minutes for £12.90, so I'll probably go with that.

I'm just trying to log in at the moment to work out how many minutes I usually use, as they have a deal with 600 minutes for £15.90.

The only trouble is, I can't use it as a hotspot for my kindle fire, which I do occasionally do, but I think I can live without it!

I had origionally thought these deals were a 24 month contract, so wasn't considering them in case the phone went kaput.

Very happy I can keep my iphone!!!!

You will need to contact your current provider to ask them to unlock your iPhone and to provide your PAC code, if you want to keep your current number.

When you get your sim you give your new provider this code and it will cancel your old contract and port your number over to your new sim.

I'm presuming it'll be quite streight forward since I'm staying with the same provider, just changing packages?

Paying £15.90 on sim only for 600 minutes is only worthwhile if you really going to use those 600 minutes. What if you normally use only 200 minutes? Money down the drain.

Unless you are a heavy user consider PAYG. You get 150 minutes 150 texts and 400mb free with Ovivo (PAYG) each month. If you need more minutes or data or whatever, a fiver gets you a decent bundle.

Can't understand why anyone would keep paying £35 if you are not in the minimum term of the contract? If you have more money than you know what to do with why not donate to charity?

ah ok i misssed that part! yes no need for pac or unlocking.

call them and tell them you want to cancel, don't tell them u want a new deal straight away, they may offer u a better price than the one advertised online.
