Windscreen Wipers removed by Garage

Basically looking for some advice, the linkage on my Kia Carens snapped whilst at work, as it was raining at 4am in the morning I refused to drive home so got towed by the AA.

Took my car to the garage the following day (on Wednesday) so they could do estimates, they got back to me today, so they are going to contact me once the part arrives. I have been asked to go into work tomorrow & agreed as I need the money and cant afford to turn work down at present.

Problem is.... the garage have completely removed the wipers would it be illegal to drive the car without any wipers on? would I get any points etc? Obviously if it was to rain I wouldn't drive the car.

Does anybody know if it would indeed be illegal to drive without any wipers fitted to the vehicle?

Thanks

Chrisy

Obviously it would be illegal, and even if it weren't, what would happen if you were driving along at 60 in fast moving traffic and it suddenly started to rain?

I do not think you have the intelligence to be behind the wheel......

Its illegal to drive without wipers. I've been pulled over by the police who were conducting spot checks on vehicles. They checked the lights, tyres and wipers before i was allowed on my way.
  • Yes I am well aware of the weather forecast thank you I did check that earlier and it's forecast to be fine from where I am I didn't come here for advice about the weather etc I asked if it would be legal as I cant find any information regarding it!

Basically your car would be classed as not roadworthy.

Windscreen wipers aren't only needed for rainy days.
Think what could happen if you are moving at 30 or 40mph and a bird decided to leave a nice big deposit on your windscreen, right in the middle of your line of sight.
This could well end up with you having a massive blind spot where it would be easy to miss something such as a pedestrian stepping out.

You're the one comtemplating driving without wipers! Seriously, your OP seemed to be only concerned about the legality, whether you would get points....nothing about the safety aspect. Read your highway code, your vehicles operating manual, mot requirements (all of which you should be familiar with to be driving safely on the roads) and oh yes, common sense!

You're proposing driving a car without wipers, but hes the moron??

    :rotfl:

Whats you're thinking about avoiding motorways and carriageways - is it so that WHEN you crash you'll kill less people?
