Don't waste money on a wedding ring

Huh!! My DH managed to completely squash his finger between two large oil pipes in an accident at work 7 weeks after we got married (ring had been made specially for him by a local jeweller) and now his finger is mis-shaped and ring wont fit anymore. Luckily he wasn't wearing it at the time or his finger would have been severed0

I disagree with this....about 1/5 of our entire budget has gone on our weddings, and my h2b's was by far the more expensive. He says other than his watch it is the only piece of jewellery he will ever wear and as he intends to wear it forever, he wants the best we can get (within our means). This is no problem with me, and I think it's sweet. To be fair, most men I know have a similar opinion!"More people would learn from their mistakes if they weren't so busy denying them." - Harold J. Smith:cool:0

Depends what you do. I work in construction and take mine off when I'm visiting site. Catch it on something and you can easily lose a finger.
Ditto with the construction job! Will easily lose it if I have to take it on and off all time as well so just wear on special occasions (if I remember). Same for the husband as he is a farmer.
I cooked dinner for a couple who are neighbours on Thursday. Didn't realise they were married as neither wear a ring too!
So it can't be that unusual...0 -
I agree that a ring can get in the way of certain trades, but a necklace or similar could also make a nice alternative. My H2B is planning on wearing his wedding ring on a chain :-)0

My OH hasn't got a wedding ring - my father and father-in-law, and both sets of grandfathers didn't have them either. None of them wear any jewellery other than a watch. I can't remember the last time I wore my wedding ring, come to think of it........ Still happily married after over thirty years, though![0

I remember being surprised when someone I met (female) didn't wear a ring as I'd never come across a married woman who doesn't and other than her still haven't. The exception being that sometimes pregnant women have to remove them as they have swollen fingers.
I can still remember howupset my mother was when hers had to be cut off.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

They'll be me too. I'd never considered it strange not to have one. But I'm now trying to think of other people I know but its not something I notice.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
74jax - do you mind saying why you won't be wearing rings? Not a criticism or me saying you should, just I've never even considered not wearing a wedding ring and wondered why.0

Ha ha its ok, no critisising in asking.
Its something I'd never thought of. I have a gorgeous engagement ring and anything next to it would spoil it I think. That said its not the reason I'm not having one, don't think there is one.
I asked OH if he was having one and he said no as he doesn't wear jewellery and surfs - so it would end up at bottom of sea or lost in car/house. If he was having one, I don't think it would change my mind.
Even in the bedget etc we never allowed for rings, no idea why, just not important to us. I hadn't thought it unusual. Neither my parents have them - mum got a bracelet instead.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0
