Flight cancellation alteration resulting 10 hour stopover

We are going to China with Qatar airlines via Doha. On the return we had a 2 hour changeover but now they have cancelled that flight resulting in a 10 hour stopover. Can they do this with no compensation? Seems unfair.

Ask them for a hotel room.

Our tour operator have already suggested a hotel room but want £260 for 2 rooms and transfer. They didn't suggest that Qatar would pay.

Call Qatar A yourself and ask them.

How far ahead are the flights?
  • I've been asked to post this query on here?

I had booked for 8 friends to fly to Mount Kilimanjaro airport with Qatar last October 2014.

I was informed 2-3 weeks before the flight was to depart that the flights had been cancelled due to an 'Involuntary change of schedule'!

We got the option of replacement flights, the only option of which was to fly out a day earlier and return a day later than planned.

We had a motorcycle safari booked in Tanzania, so had to take the flights and ended up paying extra for accommodation and expenses for two days in all.

I wrote to Qatar asking for a very reasonable recompense of expenses not amounting to more than £100 per person but were refused this.

Do you think there is anything I can do to at least recover our accommodation expenses?

    Many thanks.
  • In response to the hotel stay with Qatar, once you start your journey, you've not got a hope on getting accommodation sorted by Qatar as one of my friends experienced. Make sure you get it arranged before your journey and contact Qatar directly as suggested. :)
