Another problem, it states I have to send them an email that he would of sent to my email address..........probably he would of done this ages ago, and I've cleared it out because we did communicate this way but very rarely....seeing as his flat is straight opposite our house, he would just pop in rather than send an email.

Just checked through my old emails and kept one from him that was sent July 2011 concerning his student loans, so they may accept this.

I wonder how many attempts I would get to guess his password before being barred....I wonder if I could get away with making one or two attempts every couple of days.

One thing you could try, depending on the web browser used, is to see if he actually saved the gmail login password itself as an answer to one of those message requesters that appear stating - "Do you want Chrome/Internet Explorer/Firefox to remember this password?".

In other words, it should normally log you in straight away because of the remember password, but lets assume you were trying to login to his gmail account from Internet Explorer whereby the password was not saved, when the reality could be that he was using firefox or google chrome to automatically login - So look around the computer for firefox and google chrome and try those to login.

If Firefox/Palemoon, then any saved passwords can be found within the browser in plain text, unless the 'Master' password option has been ticked.
    Move along, nothing to see.

In Firefox their is a great add-on you can get "Password Exporter"
It lets you view all saved username and passwords and the website they are linked to. So you can get access to all accounts.
