returning the milk is not the best use of my time. Taking it out of the chill increase the chance of the milk going off.

Remember there are lots of people on here complaining about minor irritations all the time likes its the end of the world thus is one instance where the risk is increased.

:rotfl: So don't buy the milk from Dlusman's corner shop, spend your valuable time travelling a little further to Farmfoods or Tesco! Of course that would mean an increased risk of being involved in a road traffic accident. Ho hum.

  • It is commonly called buying from the grey market. Supermarkets are retailers not wholesalers & they will make this clear in a paragraph buried in their trading terms which very few people will bother reading. Supermarkets will not usually knowingly supply other retailers with products to sell & if they do catch someone at it it is not unusual for them to ban them from shopping there. My local Lidl has a long list of banned customers yet the local kebab shop/pizza place still manages to serve up Lidls american fries & pizzas, as and when people get banned from Lidl they just pay someone else to go shopping for them.

There is no law saying retailers cannot purchase goods from another retailer although strictly speaking those goods would then be second hand & the warranties become a bit more complicated hence the reason it is called the grey market.
  • I see people buying trays of cans from Farmfoods because they are cheap. Also because they are not marked as multipack cans I imagine they are selling them in their shops or they are very very thirsty! If I remember right it is 6 quid for 24 cans. Sell them at 60p each and you will make 8.40 profit. If I had a shop I would buy them.

Also a cousin works for a supermarket. They do get staff from two pubs less than 3 minutes walk buying things like chips, salad items etc as they have ran out.

For a few quid, they are able to serve up more choices and therefore gain more profit
  • Who cares?

Fiona why was it relevant to mention the shop keepers race? All you had to say was shop keeper, hope you feel as silly as you sound!

Note the op has stopped posting, I think she realised the post was pretty dumb!

Booksellers would buy books at a discount from publisher or wholesaler and get discount according to their buying power. They would then sell on to the customer at the recommended retail price on the cover. The retailer might get 60% off the cover price.

Then the supermarkets started selling books through wholesalers and smashed the Net Book Agreement, selling books way cheaper. It was then often cheaper for small bookshops to go buy say Harry Potter from ASDA than to get it from the publisher.
