All this talk of slow cookers makes me want one too -- But we are on a v tight budget (but who isn't?). Argos have a 3.5 litre one for £11.99 - Is this a good price or can anyone recommend a better one?

    It's a good price.

    But

That size may not be big enough for a family. Mine, at your size just for me, makes me a couple of good sized meals and one for the freezer. No doubt other users will be able to tell you how many meals they typically get out of their cooker. Of course - it does depend if you're doing the whole meal or just one part of it.

Lille - looks OK, but you won't be able to cook chickens (unless v small) or legs of lamb in it. You could try having a look round car boot sales, a few people have come across some real gems for next to nothing.

Or Amazon do larger ones at £24 ish and then there's no postage to pay either.

There's only me and my 12 yr old to feed most of the time and I wouldn't be without my big 6.5 litre one to be honest. I can fit a large 2kg chicken in it easily, as well as extra veg if necessary, a whole leg of lamb, large joints of meat, and when I do chilli, bolognese, stews, casseroles etc I can cook enough to freeze for extra meals.

Go for the 6.5 litre from Amazon. You'll be surprised how much you use it once you get started. I'm using mine for making lunches to take to work. I easily get 4 or 5 meals from the 6.5 litre size, so have always got an individual meal in freezer to take to work and nuke at lunchtime. If the £24.99 seems a bit much at the moment, just think how much you'll save when you start making cheaper meals.
