Euro ATMs in London

I've never used these machines to withdraw from a GBP account, only from my EUR accounts, so I can't be sure. However, when I've used GBP-denominated credit cards (including Santander Zero) to withdraw other currencies elsewhere in the world, the reduction in my available credit limit appears to be an interim estimate, in that the eventual transaction amount is often slightly less.Thanks. But normally GBP ATM withdrawals show up instantly on online banking.
If I went out now, does that mean I wouldn't know what the actual rate was until Monday (i.e. I might see my available balance drop and could calculate the rate, but the transaction will get processed later and I might get charged more or less - not that it matters a great deal but just for my curiosity)?0 -
I was in Knightsbridge today and noticed the branch of BBVA Bank just down the road from Harrods has an ATM that dispenses GBP and EUR. I didn't try using it, but the screen says that it's operated by Raphael's Bank, so I assume it won't convert EUR withdrawals to GBP.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -
So I went to the Natwest / Ulster one on Bishopsgate on Saturday. The rate was 1.17263 on xe.com (I look at the top one) and 0.8529 on truefx.com.
I took out €190 in total and my available balance went down by £162.11 indicating a rate of 1.172 or 0.8532 - so very slightly worse. The transaction hasn't been processed yet as of 27 hours later.
The machine dispensed brand new €10s, crisp but creased €20s and crumpled/torn/dirty €50s...
I also saw a Raphael's Bank € ATM in Liverpool St station but am not sure whether it does DCC or not.
And FYI, I also took out GBP 100 from the HSBC ATM "track-side" at Earls Court station and was given 20 fivers!0 -
You won't know the rate until the next business day. MasterCard have to add up all the GBP bought and the GBP sold by their card holders and then trade the net amount with their bank. Only when they do this trade will you know the rate. The rate they have used is only an estimate based on Friday's market close at 5pm NY time, which is why it's only 3 pips out.I took out €190 in total and my available balance went down by £162.11 indicating a rate of 1.172 or 0.8532 - so very slightly worse. I can confirm that I wasn't charged any commission when I withdrew euros with my euro card (French bank) at the Raphaels Bank ATM at One New Change.
I withdrew 600 euros and the online bank statement for my French bank shows a 600 euros withdrawal - perfect!0 -

The Ulster Bank machine on Bishopsgate no longer exists. Natwest has moved to 55 Bishopsgate and has no machines inside which dispense Euros.0
