Hi, I have sky broadband and they promised speeds of 1-3mb, the speed i am getting is about 0.3 of a meg (mind numbingly slow) i rang sky and they said i am getting 1 meg but they said it splits between the 4 devices on my router. so i get the 1mb speed that is coming in split between my devices. i rang them and they sent engineer to check line and he said it was fine. they said if i go to fibre i can get 2.6mb max as i live half a mile into the sticks, this would be fine but am i better off going with bt or do i stick with sky? also do all routers split the speed? 2.6mb would be fine and plenty quick enough. i'm stuck with what to do as i am no expert, any advice i can get would be great - thanks

Yes your speed will be split between devices. If one person is download or playing games then anyone else using the internet will have their speed reduced.
Get your line stats from your router and put them in here to find out what you should be getting

Speed on a device would only be reduced if the others were in use and even then it would only be noticeable if one was downloading.
As said stats will throw more light on what is possible.0 -

what happens if the other devices are not using the internet?0 -
Can you find a page that shows anything for attenuation and noise margin?
Unfortunately the sync figures alone don't mean much other than it's slow and you already told us that.
If only one device on a router is using the internet it gets all the resources even if others are plugged into it.0 -
what do you suggest from here?0
