Eurovision 2014 is 6/8/10 May (See, I did do something useful this morning), where is TBD.

Let the 'Oh no, I need to rebook my hotel room' mayhem begin! :D

There's been an article on this CK. Four venues left in the running, though far apart so still not possible to book for the definite location. Could of course pre-book Copenhagen - 50% chance of it being there and plenty of hotel choices, easy to cancel if it goes elsewhere.

If you like mashed potatoes, a potato ricer is a must. It's like a giant garlic press. Boiled spuds put through a potato ricer with a little milk, plenty of butter, salt and pepper and perhaps a tiny bit of nutmeg is fantastic.
Couldn't agree more - no nasty lumps, and it's quick and easy to use.

Would either of you happen to know whether you can use a potato ricer for sweet potatoes? I'm allergic to real potatoes so mash sweet potatoes, but it is hard to get them smooth.

I'm no longer strong enough to use my ricer :(

Compoundedvbybthe fact that a few weeks ago I bashed my right thumb in an accident. In retro spect I think I fractured it and should have at least strapped it.:o. Its really sore now, but not swollen. I've left it so long and not much any one could do any way, plus I hate doctors and seeing them for also rats of things that they might be able to do something about ....:o

But I should have got a snap of this at the time I think now. :o

Fwiw I also like lumpy mash , ( I kne, I know . And mash with skins in it)

I think you could. I use a hand mixer mainly though. We have sweet potatoes more often that potatoes.

If you are only mashing or the two of you and bake them they mash fluff illy ...are you boiling/ steaming them?

I used to sell those in the Lakeland days :)

Maybe when I grow up and become sophisticated (or at least try to be) - if I do mash, I leave the skins on, cut into slices (so cooks quicker) and boil until soft. Then roughly mash (usually with a fork to save washing up) as much as I can be bothered (with pepper, butter and milk +/- mustard/ horseradish sauce/ cheese/ spring onion/ whatever else I fancy or have lurking.
Its usually only rustic mash for one so I don't mind a few lumps!

Edit: looks like I could serve my rustic mash to lir :)

I always steam them. I do like the baked ones too, but if I cooked those they wouldn't last long enough to then be mashed, they'd be in my tummy well before that.

I can't see why not - I'll experiment some time and let you know!

Learning to stand up wee is a useful skill.....but you do have to squat back a little bit.
So you stewarding @ Bestival? Sounds fun.....on my list of to do's as still never been to one. Some people swim to it as well http://www.swim2bestival.com/

Smash? I have never eaten it in my life....eewww.

I used a shepee - wouldn't do it again through choice!

Yup - will be my first time there. Been to Glastonbury three times, so it'll be my first time at another festival. Not that many other festivals appeal, but Bestival usually seems to have a good line up (e.g. not sure they've ever invited Chezza Cole), and the beginning of Sept usually has ok weather (crosses fingers). I bet you'd love going to a festival. Nowadays you don't even have to rough it if you want to splash out on a teepee/ other posh tent.

I did jokingly think about swimming for about a nanosecond, but I'd struggle to swim with my tent and weeks worth of kit :)
