Apparently Danny Boyle is going to direct the film version of Porno - with the same cast as was in Trainspotting.
Every time I had to go to Mile End, the Pulp song of the same name came into my head (from the Trainspotting soundtrack), which wasn't exactly encouraging!0 -

Well, it freaked the hell outta me when he told me, He had seemed a lot of things but insane and obsessive and creepy hadn't been one of them. He also told me he loved me uncomfortably early. I smiled and said something like ' that's sweet'. I still am unsure how he managed to convince me he was right in such a short period of time really.0 -
I came out as elite, I think it is an age thing. Buying a home and acquiring a pension seems to give you a lot of credit. DS1 pointed out that I have less culture capital than every single group.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Put like that, I completely see how it was unsettling at the time! Its lovely with hindsight though, and he was proved correct0 -
Yeah, the extreme emotions are hard to cope with. I mostly wanted to climb into a Whisky bottle and sit there forever. Apart from that I wanted to argue with people as that's about as violent as I get.
Grief , drink and anger are a horrible mix. Yesterday after the service and pub reception for our friend her husband and sons and another family all came back to our house. When we ran out of champagne we resorted to red wine we had in (fine) and Pinot Grigio:eek: our daughter went out & bought from the local coop. We had made a huge pot of ragout on Monday which was to be destined for the freezer but became dinner for us all. It was as good an end to the day as we could have hoped as all those who loved her could stay close...then..Mr S who does not usually drink much proved that consuming a lot of beer, whisky, wines various will alter your disposition(he had a well earned sorehead this morning) and I had snapped at him (earning myself a stiff rebuke from DD).lemonjelly wrote: »It's been a while since I did this - hope I don't get logged off!
An update regarding reading material - posted on the same day Iain Banks reveals his illness & belief he has less than a year left.
James Joyce - A portrait of the artist as a young man - a classic by all accounts. Have to say I read it, and was classically bored.
Agree.
Steinbeck - The Grapes of Wrath - yup, ashamed to say It took me til now to read this (rightly proclaimed) classic. The series of steps a family is forced to take, it seems at the time reasonable, but hell, you can feel the anger rise as each page turns. Hugely relevant to current times in myview.
Agree with this too.
.
Not read anything for ages as I cannot concentrate but it was nice to be reminded of what I do/do not like.I suspect this only applies in the UK. The Great British Class Calculator
There are now 7 "classes" in the UK.

We are elite it seems. Honestly we are not or if we are then it is a bl**dy low threshold.
Pastures can vouch for me.0 -
NP help required, haven't really done many funerals, should we bring flowers? If so what sort? We will only be at the church not the crematorium or wake. We have already made a generous donation to a collection for the family?
The widower of our friend has been really comforted by some lovely tributes written to him about her..many emails..as expats, her colleagues and acquaintances were world wide.
He included a selection of them in the order of service. Acquintances spoke of their perceptions of her..her style, warmth, beauty, smile, elegance.
I think what I am trying to say is that as 'mum at school' you and DW are well placed to describe her in that role at the school gate (as you percieved) if you feel able to write a few lines. These words will last if you can share them with her family by writing a few lines in the coming weeks.0 -

Thanks everyone for the tips for the service.
Technical something or other for us.
I think there are a lot of influencers in this country who do not realise how much better off they are than average as they just don't see how many people there are who live in those dull and slightly intimidating bits of towns and cities that are not destinations to visit.
Feeling a bit down today, spent much too much of last night up with kids coughing then the funeral service then an afternoon at work unable to stay awake and mind elsewhere then to garage who had charged 120 quid more than their quotation/estimate (which we accepted as it was similar to other estimates) and refused to refund as apparently it took longer than they expected....then they pointed out that one of the new tyres was flat which means a trip back to Welwyn and no doubt an argument over the 'lifetime guarantee'. I thought the car woes were behind us
Bed time now before another night of coughing.I think....0 -

Now ... not sure whether to blog on wordpress.com or blogger.....
Need to make a Facebook page too.
Been f4nnying about on Pinterest for 2 days too.
Good idea, I know someone who makes bags and she sells loads on it mainly to USA.
The other good one is www.notonthehighst.com
I would concentrate on the making the stock and loading it on to sell....then get going with the promo things like blog and FB. When you post out their stuff pop a flyer in with the web addresses etc and say to join to get discount codes etc.
DD has been doing a bit of pinterest but instagram is now the no1 then twitter for generating sales for us. FB is so so.lostinrates wrote: »Meanwhile, here in elite land.....
I have had the electric heater on in the bathroom on an extension lead (I know I know) to brave taking a shower. The sitting room is eight degrees today. Needless to say I have not been sitting, well, not in there. Bedroom should be warm enough (no themometre in there) for after the shower, but its hard to convince myself.
I cannot wait for proper hot water. Thank god nice builder installed the twmporary shower and thank god we kept it when it was not meant to be needed anymore. Even so.....
The emmersion takes about 3 hours to do a tank but I can't get up @ 4am to switch it on.
Haven't got much funeral advice as I haven't been to any other than close family but good luck with it as it'll be a hard one for sure.
ok going to do the quiz now....fancy being 'elite' so I might cheat.
How's old horse LIR? I hope I didn't miss your post as you said you may have to ...you know. I liked that horse a lot.0
