Maybe it's a price point issue.... maybe I've not seen those because they're expensive. Stuff only gets picked up on my radar and registered when it's affordable in comparison with my usual alternatives :)

I've never seen a thing yellow stickered in Mr S 2 miles away.

I don't mind about BBE dates etc.... I'd eat them after the date, I check everything to see if it's green.... but, when buying, I have to assume the date's the date I have to eat it by, so I can evaluate how feasible it is to get through it "in time". If there's no chance ... I'd not buy; if it's physically possible to get through it all, I'll buy it .... and see what happens if I really don't get through it all.

I check in every supermarket for cheese/onion muffins ... however, I do find ath most shops run out of muffins/crumpets/similar early in the day and I am usually looking late in the day/evening, so maybe I've not seen the Tesco ones.... although I've not got a Mr T close to me so not been in one since last October.

The Sainsbury's ones are definitely 'taste the difference', I only buy them when the are over 50% off. I know what you mean about needing to consider whether you can get through things in time - it takes quite a lot of paying attention to when you are only catering for one, doesn't it? In that aspect, it is lucky I like eating (a lot).

For me its why I would hate to be without a freezer.

With plain muffins, I use them (toasted) as a base for baked beans/scrambled eggs for a big breakfast (two muffins, each halved) .... or, when peckish, I'd just toast them with margarine for a snack (one muffin, halved).

I bought jam today too .... Morrisons 29p Strawberry..... although I do understand that jam on cheese/onion muffins might not be the best combo.

I don' tend to add salt to cooking most things ( roast pork is one exception, there are others, in fact, I salt most birds skins too...and so expect people to season themselves at the table. I would never add say, to say, chips. In fact I don't think I add salt at the table to anything.

I also put salt on crackling and roast fowl and in salad desing. That is just about it in cooking. We do add a little salt at the table. Having eaten some middle eastern home cooked meals I found the levels of salt in them to be way too much for my taste.

The lamb tonight tasted a little salty to me...as it was pre-prepared it had salt on it.

Well ...cheese eaten with fruit cake or membrillo.

I used to make cheese and apple scones, they were delicious.

Personally I detest those cheeses with fruit in them...but happily eat cheese with honey or quince jam, so....no reason to I guess.

Just checking mysupermarket - Mr S flavoured muffins are £1.25 for 4. My "usual" yardstick is 6 bog standard muffins at Lidl for 65p. So they're off the price radar.

I generally only buy them when yellow stickered, but my usual would be the Sainsbury's basics (6 for 69p). What are the lidl ones like?

Just had a look and my 4 cheese and black peppers were 60p. An extravagance I know, but they are so nice (esp with the aforementioned marmite).

It is a juggling act.... I have to consider the date of everything that goes in the trolley and choose when I want two things. e.g. if I am in Lidl once a fortnight, I might be wanting crumpets AND muffins.... but if both are dated for the next 2 days, I can't have both. That runs across everything I buy - and the whole basket of goods has to be considered against what I've got at home, what day of the week it is, what's in the basket and how I plan to use it.

I have a successful zero waste food policy ..... but it does irk me constantly having to reject items that I want as I had to choose.

The pizza I brought earlier came from the freezer .... and I'd have liked to get 2 as I know a frozen pizza'd be OK for a couple of days in the fridge.... but I also knew I was also committed to eating muffins as I'd bought them in the previous shop. And, in that shop, I'd already had to put back some meatballs (BBE today) because I couldn't have eaten all the meatballs and all the muffins in the time available.

I cook lots of middle eastern food ( think its my favourite really) and just...leave salt out. Where its needed it gets added at the table.
