hmm.. I wasn't aware that I have to provide my insurance to the to tax my car. Would dealers not tax it through their insurance?

what a mess if I would know it will be like that I wouldn't bother going 70 miles to buy a car...:(
Personally I would drive there in the rental car and sort it out face to face or take them up on their offer of a refund as they said in one of their emails and be done with it.

Sending emails to and fro isnt going to get this fixed imo.

The Octavia VRS isnt exactly as rare car so there will be plenty of others that will pop up for sale.

Still not clear to me why you cant drive it without the log book?

TBH I am surprised that the dealer has compensated you for the hire car and not just given you something of their own.

From a bystanders point of view the garage have cocked up and are admitting that and trying to help you. They have offered to unwind the deal and as you appear to be so unhappy then take them up on this offer and buy one somewhere else, as I think this experience is always going to leave a bitter taste in your mouth, and everytime you have a problem with it you will be wound up.

OP, One of the posters above has pointed-out that according to a check he carried-out, your car is taxed until Jan '14 so yes you can drive it. When you get pinged by an ANPR it will show as taxed. It also shows as being insured on AskMid.

As long as the vehicle is showing as taxed on the DVLA database the Police tend to not make to much fuss. When I bought a van I taxed it, but when I put the tax disc in, it went behind an older taxe disc of the same colour and I didn't notice. Never got questioned by the Police once, despite passing several patrol cars.
