Thanks for all the suggestions  It's myuncle's 80th 1st may, big bash 28th april. We moved up to scotland 1999 so a scottish theme would be ideal. Love the idea of whisky galore dvd (found a celebrating 80 years of ealing comedies version so even more ideal), will add 1 or 2 items per week into shop, tie up with tartan ribbon and bob's you uncle (or in my case Bill :rotfl:)

Oh cool, have to include some of these :Dhttp://jejunesplace.blogspot.com/2006/04/knit-haggis.html Have also found a couple of unopened whisky miniatures in the house so will include one of those. Will probs give the charity shops a trawl as may find some interesting bits and bobs, not least some tartan to line the basket with. I just love having a hamper project :j

Dundee Doll - just thinking - the scottish shop in the nethergate oppposite debenhams may still be there - can't remeber what it's called but it's quite traditional. Could get get Scottish CD;s etc there. Also think haggis, pate, Baxters soup (eg highlanders soup), irn bru, etc.

hat about having IOU vouchers in there, especially for day trips/short trips - look at Visit Scotland for ideas as well as money saving boards for vouchers / savings. I HAD VOUCHERS IN MY HUSBANDS 40 AT 40 birthday box for things he liked eg mag subscription, picnic for the proms etc

    HTH

    Snowy

btw - me & hubby "belong" to dundee - i'm a ferry lass and he's from the other end. now living in the countryside north of dundee

How about some of the more basic tastes of Scotland, the less well known...........Smoked salmon/trout/venison/kippers/haddock (all vac packed) some crowdie cheese or Loch Arthur cheeses, Sulwath Brewers beers, Moffat toffee, Selkirk Bannocks...........all down to the naff tartan tie.

Lots of places will sell these over the internet and post to you where they are not available locally, but if in Dundee you've got to include Marmalade and Jelly if not a slice of cake! Even someone from Grotty Ferry must know that? :ROFL

Can't believe that nobody has mentioned Oor Wullie or The Broons - we still love an annual at christmas, and the recipe books are great too!
