I also reccomend Irn Bru chewy bars, I sent them to an expat Scottish family in Canada and they LOVE them.

Tinned haggis? I've bought it, but not tried!

Heather honey, Edinburgh rock (but only if he likes to eat sugar by the spoon :rotfl: )

For some really genuine and more unusual Scottish produce I go to this deli in Yorkshire.
    Moniack Castle jellies / horseradish / garlic sauce/ hot grill sauce/haggis sauce/sloe liqueur / mead/silver birch wine /plum wine.
Also Traquair House Ales / isle mull cheddar

Only snag is they dont do mail order

For serious foodies try this place at Northallerton, also in North Yorkshire (we like our food!) They do mail order, but I think it may only be in the form of hampers (you can choose what goes into the hamper). Worth a visit if ever you're in the vicinity.

Forgot to mention that my husband is Scotish and everyday we get a completely free Scottish paper with comps and local scottish news in it via e-mail.. He loves it and I have found it good for holidays and competitions (before I was part of this wonderful site of course)!
http://www.scotsman.com/ sign up and see what happens! I know you can't put it in a hamper but it's a freebie everyday. Last competiton we entered (didn't win though) was to appear in an Inspector Rebus T.V. film!

Anyway free and worth a look!!

What about clootie dumpling, tablet, macaroon, edinburgh rock, bagpipe c.d? Buy a few miniatures of whisky rather than a bottle of one sort. We've bought lots of t-shirts in the past with Scottish phrases -'eejit', 'fitba', etc. Maybe one of these would go down well?
    Hope this helps.
