4 small items of furniture collected Monday (to be used for previously homeless people). Some other items they couldn't take - 2 have been put in the back yard today (I am allowed a bulky waste collection this month but limited to 5 items and DS3 seems to have broken his bed base - I already knew the mattress needed replacing).
DS1 came this morning and has sawn up his old bed so I now have my shelves in place under the stairs - have moved tinned and dried foods across and will be moving the tools (currently spread out on the spare single bed in the front room) later.
Lots of material left earlier in the week - Red Cross had a notice asking for 'craft materials' so lots of bits and a few larger pieces that are suitable for dolls clothes, puppets, patchwork and cushions have gone. decided that any 'new' crafts can wait until retirement. i will concentrate on my embroidery (that needs a cull too) and making my own clothes so only kept the material I have a purpose for (+ some curtain material, cut to length for the old house so too short for here - I keep thinking I will make dachshund draught excluders out of it).
Lots of other bits gone - more drinking glasses and some red curtains DS2 bought are next but need to wait until I feel okay at the top of a ladder again (recovering from 'flu type' thing so keep going wobbly).
Need to get some people round for quotes but still need a bit more space. Hoping one of the freed up shelf units from the kitchen can come up here to accommodate all my craft drawers - feel more organised when they are slotted neatly in cubes.
Must get on and make a Mother's Day card - every bit helps. May hem the curtains I brought back with me as her present, that would be another small pile to leave the house. My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0 -
Afraid to say, Pigpen, my neighbours are not only present, they're also into vintage... I'm helping one of them kit out her camper van right now, whilst trying to resist a small table that she's decided she doesn't want to shabby up & sell on - it'd look really great painted cream, with an old Bartholomews local map, appropriately toughened up, for a top. I need to make some Kumihimo braid to string cherry-blossom bunting in my little Japanese van, too.
The cut-out patterns & recipes have duly been collected, and a broken but very pretty old German sewing machine's due to go this afternoon; it's not worth my time to restore, as you can't get needles for these any more. However it's contributed some useful feet for one that is good to go, though, and the new owners just want it for display... There won't be any further "movement" until after the weekend, now, as it's the monthly market tomorrow - complete with a sale of vintage knitting patterns; fancy that! - and my brother is bringing Mum up for lunch on Sunday.
Next week's plan - tackle the porch, list some more stuff on Ebay, and get those rugs cleaned & moved on...Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
A thick green polo neck which is too big now. The sleeves poke out of the bottom of my coat sleeves and although big, bulky and warm, it's just too loose.
A pink cardigan. It had pilled but was perfect for wearing under the aforementioned polo neck to add another layer.
A single dessert bowl which I found digging the garden. Nice pattern but I don't need it. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
I've listed a stack of school uniform stuff on ebeast.. I have 3 more binbags to sort through hopefully I'll get that done this week.
My 13 y/o has an op tomorrow so I'll get nothing done then.. OH is taking the pram wheels in to be checked over/repaired tomorrow with his bike inneed of repair too.
I desperately need to sort through my room but I just don't have the time or the motivation..
I put a bowl in the bin which had a monster chip.. I cannot abide chipped crockery.
Other than that I've done not a thing!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
A banana yellow, Regatta brand, pullover fleece which causes mental static to my hair every time I pull it over my head.
A CS cashmere cardigan. Lovely and warm and initially washed okay. Then, after doing nothing different with the washing, it started coming out shrunken and hard and in need of being pulled and drying flat. I've no room for a prima donna cardigan. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
Oooh, Gingernutty, cashmere felt... I made £20 out of an old felted mohair blanket last summer; bought it for 50p at a car boot sale, somewhat shrunken & mis-shapen, chucked it in my faithful washing machine on a 60℃ high-agitation wash and straightened it out to dry, now half the size. Then cut it up into squares & sold them to stitchers at a high-end stitching fair... several of my cardis have gone the same way since! Oddly enough Pr!mark fairisle ones felt beautifully... they make a great surface for fancy beading & stitching onto, or a smashing & unusual cushion cover.
No action here, OH is on leave for a few days & I can't get stuck in whilst he's watching.Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
A 1980s, collarless, dark blue jacket from C&A.
It had one button on the front, a V-neck, had shoulder pads with no lining or interfacing to keep them straight and had no pockets.
I replaced the faded plastic button with a pretty metal one, stitched the shoulder pads so that they didn't fold up and go all lumpy as soon as I put my arms down the sleeves and got the sleeves shortened.
And then it sat in the wardrobe for too long as I found excuses not to wear it.
Then I lost weight and after trying it on today, realised it looks ridiculous.
I'm short with a petite bone structure, the padded shoulders went out past my own shoulders, the lack of pockets was inconvenient and the whole thing made me look like some failed attempt at 80s "power dressing".
Imagine this, with a deeper V, one button under the V and no pockets.
The colour was nice and the 3/4 length was flattering but it was nothing I was going to wear outside. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -

Great work, Gingernutty & Pigpen!
I've not got much further with the mess in the porch & conservatory, but I have managed to sort out 3 files of paperwork. I'd been stuffing bank statements etc. into them unopened, because I already knew the contents - have tried to switch paper statements off on all 3 accounts, but for some reason it's never "taken" - which means that I was storing a heck of a lot of envelopes & mail shots! Now in the recycling bin, and the statements neatly organised & filed away.
And I've arranged with DD1 to "do" the first car boot sale of the season next Saturday. This will allow me to unload a fair bit of excess or out-of-season stock whilst she prowls round looking for this summer's stock!
Ebaying continues; I'm listing a couple of high-value items a week and so far all but one have sold. That one lot was a shot in the dark; a very good buy for some of my regular customers, but as a fair number of those only use computers at work (they "live" in the 1930s/40s/50s at home) I knew it might not sell! But it doesn't take a lot of storage & will sell at the first of the summer's events.Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
