Sunday after reading this decided to clean out unused bedroom.......checked old linen etc found in the wardrobe a mouse had been active ,last checked at xmas when we had visitors, old newspaper chewed up. cleared it all ,what was i keeping size 10 clothes for???? Took to dump lots of old items that dont work from the garage, big pile to take to charity shop. Thanks for all you people who have inspired me to carry on de cluttering.Sonic mouse machine plugged in.;)

well done. I have been waging war with mice and found those sonic machines did not work at all. Poison and snap traps (which are quick instant and kind) worked best for me. Make sure you get on top of the little blighters fast as they breed like .... well mice.

I have got to share as a biggie for me: I have just cleared out all of my clothes 2 and 3 sizes too small for me that I have been keeping for about 6 years. I don't have the room to keep them, I might never loose the weight and if I do I will be more than happy to raid the charity shops for a new-to-me wardrobe! No more hangers precariously dangling outside the wardrobe and not being able to shut the doors flat! Woohoo!

This has spurred me on lots and I am mentally making lists of the next category to be decluttered/dehoarded. Paper stuff by the bag load and toys next on the list. They are bigger tasks so will tackle in stages.

:( Just had a bid on my load of vinyl (records) on ebay. Bit sad about it but I hope it will go to someone who will use/ appreciate it rather than sitting here dusty and untouched

    Re mice,

We have no back door ( long story, but joiner coming to meet me on Wednesday) and haven't had for two years. We live on a farm, - a mouses waddle from where the cow cake is stored.;)

A pallet with tarp and cardboard is there in winter, nothing in summer, but even the pallet doesn't stop mice.

It doesn't matter how clean I am, mice like my warmer than outside ( well, sometimes) house. A back door is going to be one of the most exciting additions to the house imaginable!

Didn't finish what I wanted to last week. Feel officially ok about it, I got a dr's note on Friday. Plenty of sitting is on the prescription. Not much up and down stairs stuff. This might mean I don't get to it this week, BUT, Salvation Army left me some bags for clothing.:) so I have got my sorted pile in one of those already.

Otoh, my cats think its great the prey comes in to them when the weather is too grim to go outside. I'll be thrilled to see no more mice.

Re getting little ones dry overnight. I know that this could well be a 'granny suck eggs' suggestion, and please forgive me if it is, but do you lift the little one on to a potty around your own bedtime for a wee, then tuck her back into bed?

I always did this with DD and DS until they were 4-5 or so. They were big children for their age, so developed good bladder capacities quite early, but it saved a lot of washing - and expensive nappies - from the age of 2 and a half or so.
10 hours or so is just too long for little bladders (and for some big bladders too).

Sat reading this thread last night and this afternoon, and have just spent the past 1 and a half hrs clearing out and tidying up the bedroom. Can now see the floor again and have a load of things to go up to school with my daughter in the morning for her jumble sale on Thursday :) We already tackled her room and her brother's room at the weekend for it, and I have her warned she's not to bring any of it back home lol.
Now have in my head to go threw my clothes tomorrow evening after work, no more keeping clothes that are too small for me, if they don't fit out they go.

So thanks to you all for the inspiration, I shall be lurking about here more often as it will give me the kick up the rear end I need to get this house sorted!

LIR, your cats aren't going to be happy when there's a door! How can you make them go outside in the cold to catch mices, they'll be calling the RSPCA on you...

I realised after I posted last night that I'd got the dates wrong, I thought today was the 8th. So, no book club tonight and the anniversary is tomorrow.

After doing a lot more than usual yesterday I've been a bit tired today. I've still managed a bit though.

I took one of the skirts back to Next, I've looked all over for the other one which I put 'somewhere safe' so it wouldn't get lost... Maybe I'm fated to keep it though, I did like it but thought it was too short - who knows, with leggings under it I might look fab in it. If it ever turns up. I've also found two identical tops in two sizes, I think I'll purple bag the smaller one.

I'm just taking a break from the bedroom sorting. So far I've sorted a load of rubbish from the top of the drawers (literally, rubbish) and more or less emptied one of the half drawers. The full drawers will be easier because they haven't turned into hot spots to dump stuff. I can now get the wicker baskets I got months ago to hold makeup etc, since the surface is visible. I dithered a bit about putting stuff back into the drawers when the plan is to get rid, but the replacement shelves will go straight in, so I'll be able to just move everything from drawers to bed to shelves.

I found a pendant I thought I'd lost. The Christmas after mum died I went away for a few weeks, and it was one of the souvenirs I bought. I knew it was somewhere in the flat, but it was nice to find it again so quickly.

I've been pondering my shoe storage problem. Ideally I'd like a shoe cabinet, but as I'm not able to put furniture together (I already have several flat packed items going back about 5 years that are still boxed) there's no point buying one. I think I've decided to have a 'shoe bin' instead, get some biggish tub to keep them in, at least for now. I've realised that if 'normal' storage solutions don't work for me, I need to find something that does, even if it's a bit eccentric.

I've finally unpacked an ipod docking alarm clock I got on ebay a couple of months ago and set it up, the tidying goes a lot quicker with rock music in the background.

Slight problem that I'm running out of bin space, but they come tomorrow for it and there's a couple of empty properties in the street that I can 'borrow' the bin as long as I put it out and bring it back in.

Softpad, that's great! I can't wait till I see bedroom carpet. I've just taken some 'before' pics, I don't know if I'll have the guts to post them though even when I have nice clean 'after' ones.

IrishRose, I think I need that warning too - I daren't go into any of the charity shops I've donated to in case I decide to buy stuff back.

It's good to see people getting their kids involved, I'm not sure if I'd be a hoarder if mum hadn't been, but it can't have helped.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

Ames, can I suggest putting the shoes paired in clear polybags, so that they don't scuff and damage each other in the tub, and can be quickly found?
I think the tub's a good idea - I have lots of tubs, now thinking of what I can use them for - but I can see the shoes becoming easily scratched and damaged as you rummage through for a matching pair if you don't do this.
(Apologies if you had thought of this too.)

    Tissue paper. And cardboard.

I did have plastic boxes for my shoes and kept them out for 24hrs after wearing them, but one day, found a pair were growing mouldy fur.

The shoes were still moist (after 24hrs) and the plastic allowed the shoes to sweat and the mould to run rampant.
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...

That's a better idea Gingernutty - or would bags being left open be OK? Perhaps one of those moisture removers from £land in the tub might help. They do work.

I have had to have a severe word with myself to convince me that I don't need this gorgeous Aldi mixer. This would mean retiring my lovely Krups hand mixer, given to me by dear friends in Germany as a birthday present 34 years ago.

I will keep on using that until it dies, so I have resisted temptation. I won't be up at the crack of dawn on Thursday to make sure I get the red one. (Sniff...)

I also have a mixing attachment on my Jamie O. food processor (given to me free by Amazon Vine to review) that I have never tried, so getting it 'in case the Krups dies' is not really an option either.

    It's progress.
Not so long ago I would have bought it.
