Commiserations to others who aren't having great days and thanks to those posting encouraging words.
GreyQueen I managed to get the hoover going again. I switched it on and the electricity was obviously working but it was making a noise like it was in pain - I knew how it felt! After messing around with it a bit more I realised I had put it back together in the wrong way after emptying it. I think I'm borderline dyspraxic or something similar as anything more complicated than changing a light bulb is really difficult for me!
I've now got about 4 bags of books and 6 or 7 pairs of shoes in the car ready to go to the recycling bank tomorrow. I'm also going to try to remember to take the paper recycling also. It does get collected weekly but we are only 'allowed' a small box to contain that, plus glass and metal, so I like to take it when I can and it encourages me to 'find' more before the collection.
I can't decide what to do with my Open University books. I completed my degree last year and have loads of books. I need to start job hunting soon and they may come in handy. I think I have got rid of some from my earlier modules but will settle for putting them all together for now and decide at some point.3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -
Could you sell them back to Amazon - uni books can be worth cashing in if it wasn't too long ago.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

Big hugs to those that are struggling. It's not the end of the world to take a break, or even to go backwards for a while, just keep plodding onwards though and things will improve. Perhaps adopt Pickepot's "one a day" method when things are tough?
Right, a big embarrassing before photo coming up....and remember this is over a year on from when I started...it is though a cupboard that I haven't attacked before...so whilst I am making progress, there are still cupboards that you need your PPE on before opening (and yes GQ - us hoarders are very adept one handed catches!).
So....this is the "big" cupboard in the kitchen...two photo's one of the top and one of the bottom. Question 1 why do I have 25 packets of anti-bac wipes. Question 2 why does my father appear to hoard lightbulbs. (4 Ikea boxes worth!).
The after shot comes tomorrow....the cupboard has been emptied and husband has been building shelves in it.
Deep breath...

Noel - I doubt there's anything in the OU books that can't be sourced on-line in two tics, now that you've done the degree and know your stuff. so it's up to you whether you find it easier to look in a book or online. The only thing I would say though is that the OU course books are specifically designed to provide sources to pass the course and for any particular job you'd want to be researching how the company/ industry you were applying for could use your knowledge, or did things so you'll be looking online for that anyway?
I too am now planning a beautiful airing cupboard with bags and ribbons, it'll be the 2043rd project on my list. My airing cupboard was designed with the tall in mind, by the tall builders and Ok'd by tall ex (no idea why, he never went in there). I being 5ft 2 am too short to reach any of the shelves so it is a bit of a pain - there's a whole project there, because they put the boiler in at a place suitable for the tall and neglected to put the shelves I requested underneath because it would have meant replacing a few pipes.
This is a consistent theme, I cannot see myself in any of the mirrors hung on walls by ex apart from the very tip of my head!
I'm slooowwwwlllyyy working on all this too to get a house that works for we vertically challenged
some days are despondent, but if we can just get one small thing out of our lives, even on these days we know we have achieved, because once it's gone it doesn't have to be dealt with again.
and thanks for all the ideas on the scalextric, but honestly? I think it is just going to go to the cs. The loft is rammed, and once cleared I need it for a loft conversion so that dd can have a room big enough to have a door on it. The outaws buy the kids lots of presents, but they only see them twice a year and I know exMIL is waging a constant war to try and pare down the contents of their home (which is huge, but had 3 huge houses "stuff" condensed into it over the past 3 years). DS isn't interested in it at all, so off it goes.:AA/give up smoking (done)0 -
Piglet it works. Dont be embarrassed it looks like mainly empty bags. I look forward to seeing the revolutionary new look. I think I will take some pics - for myself - and then I can see how far I have come.
Another big bag ready for the Cs and its bin day tomorrow so I can start filling up again. Just cleared my basket that I use all the time and my purse. Small things but make life easier when Im shopping so I dont have bits of reciepts falling all over the place. Feel a blitz coming on so will go and get started.
Love to hear from you all and chin up to those having a bad day - theres always tomorrowClearing the junk to travel light

I will get my caravan0 -
piglet ! did you sneak into my kitchen and take pics????
you know how I said I can open "most" cupboards? - well there's still one, it's better than it was before, but it's still not good, and it looks much like that :~) clutter looks sort of generic once it's got to certain proportions I find, like the brain can't process it anymore.:AA/give up smoking (done)0 -
Piglet, that's normal for how cupboards look on Planet GQ......I even recognise that vinyl Sains bag..........:rotfl:

Probably, or there is a Facebook group for people who want to sell OU books. However, I'm thinking that they may come in handy if I go for a job. The day after my final exam I saw a job advertised working with Irish Travellers. I had studied it on my course and used it to answer a question on my exam, so the books would have come in really useful if I'd decided to apply for that job.
I'm getting rid of lots of other books so will hang on to these for the time being.3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -

The jury's still out on this one and, as there is so much other stuff to deal with I'll leave it for the time being. I'm hoping to find something in the 3rd sector although, as you say, I would need to research whichever organisation I was applying to. However, the health and social care degree is less 'academic' than a lot of other courses and it is an area that constantly changes in terms of legislation, policies etc. I do think it could prove to be useful to keep the books for the time being but will be constantly reviewing it. I don't want to apply for a job and realise there is something very specific in my books that could help and then get really stressed out trying to research it online and not finding what I'm looking for.
I would be more inclined to dispose of the books if I knew I could get access to the same materials on the OU site indefinitely but, once you've finished a module, you normally lose access to the course materials.3 stone down, 3 more to go0
