  • Welcome back, Dee!

    You were missed!

    Oh well.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

I joined FlyLady and was intimidated by the barrage of emails. So I blocked the emails. I didn't have time to do every ickle small task dictated, and I am the sort of person who if I'm told "you will throw out 20 things" I dig my heels in and say, NO! :o

We've promised ourselves April to try and get things under control as I'm being paid to stay at home and it will need both our attention. House and garden both screaming, but we're resolved that we've got to do it.

Tonight, however, I am watching tv as I finish work tomorrow and am a bit

And extremely tired as I seem to have been waking up every hour for the last month or so when I'm asleep, just waking, for no reason. I'm sure that's the uncertainty as my friends at work are doing the same.

Catriona, am sorry that you're in that difficult situation, it's not at all easy but you will get through it in time and it will make you a stronger person. Thinking of you xx

I have a question - does anyone here hoard artwork and writing? ... Any other writers/artists out there with this problem? :o

    Um....yes, me <hesitantly puts hand up>

Like you, I'm an artist / writer. And I hoard everything I've written (and my computer is filled with 'helpful' articles from the Internet about writing). I hoard art stuff, pictures and cards to use as 'inspiration' but thankfully not too much of my own art stuff is hanging around.

Unfortunately I knit, sew and craft as well. So multiply the above by about 3.

If you find a way to get yourself to let go of bits, please let me know before I'm buried under it all. :rotfl:

Sounds like your stress hormones are out of whack, could try to combat this with exercise such as walking - won't go into health stuff here but worth a quick Google

nodette & Catriona Re hoarding evidence of creativity - I find I can get by with 2 categories of stuff 1) Finished 2) Inspiration
    • Cat 1) is obvious - anything worth keeping, that I am proud of or that could go into a portfolio to promote my work - there's quite a lot not worthy of this that can go out so I just keep the best - but consider it for cat 2
    • Cat 2) stuff is not worthy of cat 1 but which shows a technique I tried, or a material used or even a design that didn't work and needs developing - I make sure I note why I am keeping it
eg "nice art deco lines, but overcomplicated, redesign in plain colours" -
once broken down like that, actually for cat 2 an image often does instead of the item
Where I have saved other people's stuff for inspiration I can often just keep a small sample eg "good use of colour" only needs one image, "good layout" only needs page 1 not the whole document

That's a positive thing not a negative so you just need to find a way to stop the results taking over!

Ah, I found you! I knew there was one thread I was missing! Thanks for starting another helpful thread JoJo.

I rang up British Heart Foundation today could they collect some now largely unused gadgets? (All electrical, so only really suitable for BHF, as they do PAT tests.)

Yes, they could. I have a bag of books for them, but said I had three bags as I'm sure I can find two more bags' worth on the shelves; I just needed some motivation.

Great for those who flylady suits, but i found despite what she said i always felt behind. I now use the toothbrush principle (which i saw recommended on this forum and bought the eBook version so i wasnt adding to the clutter) so far this is suiting me very well. I find it a very positive approach. I'm using it for the house but also for my work bugbear - my emails. My efficiency at work is definitely on the up, and at home mornings are no longer a mad rush trying to find my watch, my shoes, my rings...

Oh thank goodness - a new title. Every time I read the previous thread title (Hoarding - a new start) I kept thinking, "What? I can start hoarding all over again? Oooooh.....better not go there."
    !!
my thoughts exactly :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Been away for a week and slowly catching up on stoof.
Monday morning at work i moved all my emails from my @action and @pending making my inbox a rather frightening 300+ but had blocked out diary for whole morning to sort them, and by lunch time 60 in action pile and none in inbox :T
Sorry if this all seems rather dull but work emails have been my absolute bugbear and all attempts to get on top of it failed and dragged me down. Action box now down to 44, inbox back to empty, diary up to date and i have no nasty surprises lurking. I also write down the 3 most urgent jobs for tomorrow each evening.

just spent 40 minutes in the attic doing my best Quasimodo impersonation whilst returning items that had been left in the spare room.

The Christmas decorations and camping gear is now properly re-homed. Going to sit down with a cuppa before I go back and do another blitz of de-junking.

Well my best laid plans just went up in a whiff of smoke as per usual..last blitzing day left before the cherubs break up and DS2's coming home at 11 and my parents are coming later  I'll have to clear a space for them to sit lol

Jo sorry to hear you're still not great hope you get the right drug level sorted soon its so frustrating isn't it..

*waves at Blossom* :D I'm back to square one here sadly so starting again from the top literally..I did so much sorting and chucking I really don't know where all this 'stuff' has materialised from :o

On top of that my windowsills are overflowing with plants this time of year which doesn't help but the good news is my garden is decluttered lolol

Eldest son helped sort it out on a nice day at the start of march so thats ready to go once it defrosts enough to acually dig out there!

Well I got the paint machine working so finished off the first half of eldest dds room. Is not an excellent job but its done. Then spent about half an hr getting her bed 'roughly' back in place (darned small rooms) I've chucked some bits and bobs from her room and have now fitted lots of her toys on top shelf of bedroom cupboard (Xmas stuff still in its boxes that never would have seen the light of day in the livingroom cupboard). Is kind of one of those worse-before-better scenarios though as the rest of the contents of the cupboard are noe strewn across the livingroom floor

I still have half her room to do and her wardrobe to build before it starts looking a bit like a normal room again

I chucked a kids milkshake maker tht had been sat on the kitchen windowsill for 2yrs and 3 months (still in its, rather faded now, box) I can't imagine the kids will miss it

Chucked an electronic bank that doesn't work properly and a weebles play set and various other random bits of junk from dds room

Oh and the contents of her room are strewn across the hall floor
