Objection from Scottish Power - Two Meters?

Hi all,

Hoping someone may have come across this before. After the latest price hike from Scottish Power I shopped around and switched to Co-operative Energy.

They came back to me saying Scottish Power had raised an objection and I needed to speak to them on it. I did so and they claimed that because I have two meters and two NPlan numbers (?) no one else will be able to take over my energy supply. Went back to Co-op and they insisted that this was rubbish and they could cover it no problem.
After going back to Scottish Power yet again they have reluctantly moved the objection but are still insisting that Co-op won't be able to take it over. Have told Co-op they can go ahead and reapply for it, but am a bit worried now that this may cause problems down the line.

Anyone else had this, or know if it should be an issue?

Do you have an economy 10 meter by any chance?

I think it's an economy 7, but it's for the heating, yes.

Does it have a boost button on it? and have you managed to change supplier before with it?

ECO10 is similar to ECO 7 but it has 2 meters (therefore 2 MPANs)

Sorry, maybe it is 10 then, it does have 2 meters. I don't think it has a boost button on it, not that I've ever noticed anyway. I haven't tried to change supppliers before, been in the property about 3 years and it was with Scottish Power when we moved in.

My guess is it is a E10, S.P should have told you this is why its being objected (if it is), maybe call to check?

Looking at Co-op's web site they don't do E10 but maybe could class it as E7 again phone them to see. I know npower, SSE and E-on do E10 but don't know about others.

Maybe have a quick look at this http://www.ukpower.co.uk/home_energy/economy_10

My mistake on asking about a boost button, I meant do you get what they call a 'boost' i.e cheaper rates of 2 hours in the day and 2 in the evening.

Thanks for that, I'm thinking that's probably what they mean so will go back and double check with them. They were rather unclear on it as they never mentioned economy 10 they just said it was because it was two meters and I used to have two on my old economy 7 so didn't realise it was much different. I'll give co-op a ring and see if they were planning on switching me to economy 7 - tbh I can't see it making a massive amount of difference as the heating's mainly on in the evenings anyway and they have quoted me a drastically lower price at the moment.

    -- E7 = 7 hours midnight [ish] till 7am [ish

    - E10 = 10 hours (1) 7 hours midnight [ish] till 7am [ish - plus 2 hours during the evening and 1 hour elsewhere

NOTE : If you """heating is mainly on in the evenings anyway""" you are almost certainly on E10, so Ddunn is correct be careful what you do. There are very very few E10 suppliers, and as a consequence very little competition for customers .. .. .. and permanently high tariffs because customers can't switch.

Thanks for that, looks like I will need to look into it further. I'm not signed onto any fixed term though with no penalty for leaving with co-op, so do you know if there would be any issue with me going back to the economy 10 with SP if they started hiking the price up once I did move?

EDIT - Sorry, meant to add. I have all my heaters on manual so when I say they're on in the evening I put them on for a few hours in the rooms I'm in. I suppose if I did change would need to keep an eye on the usage more to start with.
  • GoTo SP log onto your account all your details will be there including your Product Plan Name / Daily Service Charge / daytime rate / night rate / meter number / area code / payment method and consumption details etc

Scotland tend to have the old 'white meters' and SP in particular install 3 rate meters for E10. As stated earlier the few E10 suppliers use AMPY metes like this - look here at thread #9 . The Comfort Plus White Meter can't read E7 tariffs and ordinary meters cannot read three-tier tariffs.

If you do have 2 physical meters you are almost certainly stuck with SP. A~n~other alternative you have is to change tariff from E10 to E7 with SP then leave to go elsewhere. The only one other possibility is to pay SP to change your meter for a single standard AMPY 2 counter meter on E7 then leave.
