Can anyone recommend a decent mid-rnage tyre please?

My Peugeot 107 needs two new front tyres. It currently has Continental tyres on.

Can anyone recommend a good mid-range tyre which isn't too expensive? I mostly do motorway driving.

Tyre number - 155/65 R14 75T

Bloke at the tyre place recommended Avon tyres but I've never heard of them.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Never heard of Avon's? They were F1 tyre suppliers in the past, they are now owned by Cooper Tyres the second largest US tyre manufacturer after Goodyear.

I personally like Cooper tyres (especially 4x4 ones) and they were on the Panda for a while.

So yes Cooper and Avons are pretty good and a bit cheaper than the bigger European manufacturers they also score well in the new tests.

Having just had a look on my tyres you can get most of the main makes around £50 (inc the Avon)

Continental EcoContact 3 would be a good compromise at £48.30

Fulda EcoControl score better at £10 less (I have never tried them)

Having had a look around you could get the Conti Eco 3 less than £40!

I would go for the Barum Brilliantis 2.

They are £45 each (probably less for 4), and the tyre is made under licence from Continental.
I have used Barum in all conditions for the last year (16K miles), and they are the best tyres I have had.

I swapped the Contis on our Aygo for Toyos. After 8,000 miles they were hardly touched, unlike the Contis which were replaced after 12,000.

I doubt if there is a huge difference if you shop around at that sort of tyre size. if you are happy with what you have on then try and get direct replacements.

If you want to save a few pennies then i also second Barum but the Bravuris ones. A little noisier than the Pirelli's they replaced but much better wet grip which I personally think is the biggest factor in our climate

Continental Eco 3s look around the best tyre you could have on there - if you shop around like someone already said they can be had cheap enough.

All the tyres above and also Hankook and Khumo. I have gone with Khumo now. They grip very well.

They have awesome wet grip (and they are more than adequate in the dry) as I found out in Italy last year. We got caught in a rainstorm on the A1 motorway just South of Rome, so the road had turned to a yukky mess. I had to do one full on stop, when a campervan slewed across two lanes in front of us. Luckily we stopped (and so did the folks behind) without any dramatics. I also used them during our recent snow, and they were very impressive. They are a bit noisier than some others, but I can take that.

Are tyres really that noisy? I'm asking because I have seen tyres now have a noise rating but I must admit I have never noticed tyres emitting any kind of sound above that of the engine revving.
