I also have this condition, not had a clot as yet, but have had treatment for suspected DVT's a few times.
Many family members died suddenly over the years, so didn't really need the test to know I pretty much had it.
Went for genetic blood testing and was confirmed. I have to carry the hospital letter when I travel, but it hasn't affected my insurance because of the wording:

What is a pre-existing medical condition?

A pre-existing medical condition is any medical condition that you have, received treatment for, seen a doctor about, visited a hospital or clinic for, or taken prescription medication for in the last 2 years.

I've always not seen Dr or had treatment in the 2 previous years, so guess that's lucky?

My 2 son's have also had the genetic test and only one has the gene.
As you say its very common and lots of people travel without knowing they have it.
Its like Diabetes, how many people have that and don't know about it, once its confirmed life insurance won't touch you (unless its for stupid premuims) & travel insurance goes sky high, yet many have been walking around with it for years.

Just wanted to point out, that's the terms and condition for YOUR policy, not all travel policies. Different insurance providers have different definitions and wordings for what a ''Pre-existing medical condition'' is. So please, everyone, don't read the above and think that's a blanket statement for all travel insurance policies.
