We had one of the stone raclettes from M&S. Used to find that it took ages to heat up and the temperature was quite low even when turned up to max. Have since bought one from Lidl (not a stone one though) and find that it heats up much quicker and works at a hotter temperature too.

We used to have a Lidl one until hubby scratched the non stick off trying to get it clean, our friends have a stone one and its great.

We make a massive pan of mash then put this in the pans underneath and put a blob of garlic butter on followed by a quality cheese slice, yum.

This is a brill way to socialise and no-one misses out being stuck cooking.

    I'm very tempted thanks

Found these reviews on the M&S one, looks good. http://reviews.marksandspencer.com/1199-en_gb/B001C6AU7E/reviews.htm

Thanks for the link to reviews, Claribel. As only one reviewer mentioned a temperature issue, it might be worth us all reporting back to see if there are just a few rogue ones out there.

I loved the review that ended:
"As an added bonus, you eat less quickly so you enjoy the company more."
Reminded me of the Walrus and the Carpenter and the unfortunate oysters. :rotfl:

Picked mine up from M&S yesterday, heavy box so good job hubby was waiting in car park! Bought salami, parma ham etc and raclette cheese from Lidl, cooked thin strips of rump steak and chicken breast on top and grilled cheese underneath, served with warm breads, salads and meats. Food was gorgeous, hubby and teenage kids loved it. Was dreading cleaning after reading reviews and stone top was in a mess but I let it cool completely and hot water, a bit of washing up liquid and soft brush did the job perfectly, no scrubbing involved!! Did rub a smear of oil in before I started cooking (as in the instructions) so maybe thats the secret? Fantastic bargain just got to find room in a cupboard for it now :D

nic3713, that sounds yummy! I really think we should start a raclette recipes thread, similar to the slow cooker / bread maker threads. I'd be happy to start it but not sure which forum to put it in.

Do others here like the idea?
