Can I use Plusnet on a Virgin cable connection?

I'm about to move into a new flat that has fibre optic broadband connection built in. My understanding is that this allows me to connect to Virgin without an installation fee. Can I use the same connection to go with another company (eg Plusnet) or does the cabling only work with Virgin?

Thanks

VM is the only national cable provider. If you want any ADSL broadband provider, then you need a BT based line installing or reconnecting.

I'm not clear if you are saying you are using a VM cable, or Virgin National (over ADSL). Nobody has fibre, just copper coax (cable) or copper twisted pair (ADSL).

If the latter, you can switch to any provider you like - if the former, it is VM only.

Some people do have fibre directly into their house. Its called FTTP, fibre to the premises.

hhmmm your saying you have fibre in flats now some new builds for flats do have fibre built in to future proof e.g. a fibre from ground level upto the flat as they don't want anyone running cables later on but i think by the sound of it this is not the case more likely you have a virgin wall plate and no you can't use virgin equipment on anything else other than virgin. you will have to have another line put in. also would use link below to check if you can get fttc as is just being rolled out and also as don't have a line installed yet will have to use address or postcode checker, which will mean depends 'if' your cabinet is up and working e.g. you will connect to that cabinet.
