Staples online

Where do I stand with buying online compared to buying in store.

I bought an item from the website and it arrived yesterday, the catalogue they have sent me with the item, the item is over half the price cheaper in the book, I have gone to the store and the same item is cheaper than the catalogue. So 3 different prices.

I have opens the box built the chair from flat pack. And now been used. I still have the box. It's only 1 day old.

I also think the gas hydraulic strut is a bit hit and miss in lifting 1/10 does not lift, but it might be me.

Are you claiming the chair is faulty? If so, the sale if goods act applies.

If you want it cheaper, buy it from the shop for the cheapest price, then tell the online retailer you want to cancel under the Distance Selling Regulations and return the boxed one you bought. You'll have to pay for return postage.

If you don't want it at all because it's faulty, as said above the Sale of Goods Act applies and you can reject it for a full refund.

If you don't want it at all simply because you've changed you mind, you're unlikely to have much luck now it's been assembled.

    Thanks guys for your response.

I,m happy with the chair but just think that the hydraulics ram is hit and miss works most of the time, but every tenth one it will not, I think it might lead to more problems.

I just can't understand why it's cheaper in the store, than online.

Why do you need to play about with the hydraulics so much, just set it and leave it.

either your issue is with the varied pricing structure

    OR

    with the faulty hydraulics

because if you go to them with two complaints you're just muddying the waters...

"I bought this item for £x but in your catalogue it's priced at £y and anyway the hydraulics are faulty..."

    compared with

"This chair, bought on (date) has faulty hydraulics..."

    Now, ask yourself

Which phrase sounds like a whinging customer and which phrase indicates a specific complaint?

Now if your issue is with the variable price you have no right to a refund.

    The choice is yours...

While online prices are often cheaper than in store this isn't always the case. Some retailers have special offers in store to try to get a bit more footfall with the hope of cross-selling (ie you go in to pick up the chair that's on special and think 'while I'm here I might as well pick up x, y and z as well'). Sometimes an in store offer is a reflection of changing lines for that branch so they're getting rid of an old line. It can also be down to having ordered too much of a product into the branch and needing to clear some of them out to make room for other stock.

There is no requirement for retailers with a presence on multiple platforms to match prices from one to another (unless they advertise a claim that they do so) and you also can't always assume that online is cheaper.

I have said I'm happy with the chair, I just want to know the regulations on online price and in store if they could refund the difference. Is it the same company or are they different.
As with regards to the gas lift I just don't want to have a faulty chair that they will say due to wear and tear. When is a product faulty when
    It works intermittent.
Not just one person will use this chair. Each user has a different height requirement.

Many thanks for your info I will monitor the gas lift over the next week.

There aren't any regulations on online price. A company can offer to sell an item at a different price in any of its stores; it can also offer a different online price.

If you have concerns about the gas lift complain sooner rather than later.
