Yes I am for real, if you get breakdown included in your insurance, you have paid for it in the premium. Alternatively you can get it as part of a premium bank account that you pay for at around £10 a month. Nobody gets breakdown cover FREE in this day and age. You pay for it one way or another.
It would seem you are not a fan of haggling to get the best deal on things from your response. A lot of people like me are on limited budgets and need to know about not just accepting a renewal price for anything anymore as you end up being fleeced, with no discount for loyalty anymore from anyone it seems.
I am quite proud to think that about an hour of my time and a little research saved me over £70 in premiums on my breakdown cover. It might not be for you but lots of people do it and if my experience helps someone save some money then it was worth the effort.
The last time I got insurance for my car, A Toyota Celica, I rang round, as you do, and went with the cheapest, best deal that I found, and got free breakdown assistance; so how can you justify the statement they load the price, when it was cheaper than others that didn't offer breakdown cover? It was Swinton Insurance, and Green Flag. Covered home start, and European cover, which I required, but didn't use.0 -
I insured my car and 3 motorbikes through Swinton. They were not only the cheapest quotes, but also offered their breakdown/recovery service for £6.99 a month, with the first 3 months free. This covers me for car and bikes. So it was goodbye to the RAC after many years.
Just thought, I could have insured the bikes slightly cheaper, but Swinton had no compulsory XS.0 -
Correction. No voluntary XS on top of the compulsory XS.0

It's free with my bank account and I have had the account for so long I pay no monthly charge. Admittedly the bank scrapped the 0.1% interest last year.0 -
Last time I checked RAC cover was £32 if you have enough Tesco clubcard points, now that's a good deal0

Why Bother.
Charging Loyal customers more than those who walk straight in from the street for the same .
There is a technical term for this, it is called:
Taking the Pish.
Just go elsewhere, not as if they have a monopoly on breakdown cover.Be happy...;)0 -
You should go through Quidco, my breakdown cover cost £19 for the whole year (AA), fair enough no relay but if you're only doing 3k miles a year, do you really need it, especially when you haven't called them out for 4 years as it is.
In comparison you pay £74Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -

I wouldn't go anywhere without relay/recovery.
Let's say you're a few miles from home but on the motorway. It's gonna cost you an arm and a leg to get recovered off the motorway if you don't have a relay service in your cover.
As for the not called them out in 4 years stance, that's totally irrelevant, you could break down on your next journey !0 -
Not quite correct Daz I'm afraid.
Relay and recovery are two different things entirely, say you do break down on a motorway, basic roadside assistance will tow you off the motorway as below:
Roadside assistance
24/7 breakdown cover. Includes a tow to a nearby garage if your car can't be fixed at the roadside. Covers cars, motorbikes, caravans, and small vans over ¼ mile from home.
What's Relay?
Relay extends the local breakdown recovery included with your AA Breakdown Cover to anywhere on the UK mainland.
So, if we can’t to fix your car at the roadside we’ll take you, your car and up to seven passengers to a single destination of your choice.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End

Also I meant does the OP really need "Relay" cover hwen they only travel 3k miles a year, I was not suggesting not having breakdown cover.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
