Three Contract taken out in my name, but it is not done by me!

Today I received a first invoice for a mobile phone contract with Three for a number I have no knowledge of and one I certainly did not sign up for. It was for £36. I have been with 02 for years and have never had a Three contract.

I have called Three to explain that this contract was not set up by me and I was told it will be referred to the Fraud Dept and they will get back to me within 48 hours....they told me that my contract was signed with Carphone Warehouse and they confirmed they have my correct DOB.

I have no idea where these fraudsters have got my full name, address and DOB, as I shred everything and is very careful....

In the meanwhile I have logged this incident with ActionFraud Police UK
and received a Crime Reference No.

No DD has been set up with my bank, so I assume they do not have my bank details... I didn't even think you were allowed to get a mobile phone contract without setting up a DD these days?

Is there anything else I should do in the meanwhile?

Thanks for any advice :)

I'd go to a phone box and call the number..... see who answers.

Was thinking of calling, but no phone box around here and I don't want them to get my mobile or home numbers....

Withhold your number first? Or get a PAYG SIM from the 99p store and call off that?

Not sure what good that will do.

Chances are the SIM has been thrown away and the phone flogged on already.

Even if it's not it just alerts them to the fact you know.

Your name and address are freely available on the electoral roll. Getting a DOB is not exactly tricky either, once you have a name.
They wouldn't be interested in setting up a DD with your bank, even if they had the details, as you would ick that up after the first month. The purpose is to acquire a £500 handset and then disappear without trace. Was it an iPhone 5 or similar?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
