Stacking a tumble dryer on top of a washing machine

My house has a small utility room, a little wider than a washing machine / tumble dryer. I'd like to buy a separate washing machine and tumble dryer and stack one on top of the other? However, doing a bit of research it seems there is very little information which combinations of washing machine and tumble dryer can be stacked. It seems that normally they need to be at least the same make and even then the options are very limited. Does anyone have any experience of stacking two machines and have any advice? In particular I've come across the the Vivanco Universal Appliance Stacking Kit (see in http://www.robinsonselectric.co.uk/vivanco.htm) which looks like exactly what I need. However, I'm very scpetical that it is really Universal with machines being ever so slightly different sizes and shapes.
Does anyone have any experience of Universal stacking kits?
Thanks
Mark.

Thanks
Mark.

I used to have this arrangement (before we built a bigger kitchen!). Rather than use a stacking kit, DH made a huge shelf thing, attached to the wall and supported on one side and at the back by big battens, and on the other side by another piece of wood that went down the floor. There was a small wooden lip on the expposed side and front to stop the tumble drier falling off from vibration (it never moved though, just very cautious!).0

We did that, seems to work ok if you have the wm on a solid floor. Otherwise the suggestion of a purpose built shelf is a very good solution......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

We had the two stacked for ages. Just plonked the drier ontop of the washer.
No stacking kits, no shelves...
Never fell off. :cool:0 -
ive also done it in the past. no kit no nothing. worked just fine.
maybe a square of wood between, will help to spread the load of the TD feet.
im sure i put something in between, but cannot remember after so long.Get some gorm.0 -
Bit late for a reply but for future ref: firstly make sure the base appliance is level! obviously check the level of the second unit aswell0

Thanks for the information all. At least I can now buy the appliances in confidence that I'll get them stacked one way or the other and not be left with only room for one. There are brick walls within a couple of inches on three sides so can build a sturdy shelf if need be...

Same here and it's worked ok0 -
I have done this in the past and made a wooden frame to lodge the tumble drier on top and keep it there. I wouldn't like to rely on just rubber feet to keep a tumble drier in place with my rattly washing machine!0

Just a quick comment have recently bought a BEKO tumble drier which I am stacking on a Hotpoint and noted in the warrenty book that the guarentee is not valid if it is stacked without an appropriate stacking kit. So you may need to be aware of this if you need to call an engineer in0
