Direct debit from 1 bank acc to another?

Options
Is it possible to set up a direct debit to
pay into another bank account in my name
E.g pay my nationwide acc from my santander
acc £60 every 20th of the month.
And if so would I just go into nationwide
and ask for dd mandate form for them to withdraw
from santander
Thanks

I think you mean "Standing Order", Direct Debits are used my companies and the like. If you have online or telephone banking you can do it that way and its more convenient.
    Bad luck breeds bad luck.

    Damn I'm doomed.

You'd do it the other way round - go into a Santander branch (or do it online if they alllow it) and set up a standing order (not direct debit) for the payment

No you can't set up direct debits from one of your own personal to another personal account of yours. You can however set up a standing order to pay £60 on the 20th of every month to nationwide account.
Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both.

Direct debits are usually reserved for companies. They have to give various undertakings before they're given permission to use the direct debit system.

Whilst you can do it at a cost (ie, they'll charge for the setup and then each DD transaction), they usually require you to be a verifiable company as well. You may also have to sign up for an originator code.

Consumers are not meant to setup DDs.

Ah. There have been other threads about ways to increase how many Direct Debits you have without spending any money.

I think there are a few tips in the Halifax Rewards Account thread.

Interestingly, Santander offers a facility to pull money in to an account from an external source. It appears as "Pull money in from an external account" in the menu and has to be set up via telephone:
This service allows you to make occasional deposits from a bank account (including external accounts) into your Santander account.

The service is only available if you have nominated a bank account from which to pull the money. To obtain a form to nominate an account, please call our Telephone Banking Service on 0845 600 4388.

I've wondered how that actually works and if they set up a DD to your other bank account to achieve it.

Yes on both accounts if it's their esaver (as mentioned copiously in the Halifax/Lloyds threads). Not sure you could do it for any of their other accounts.

They might not meant to be but they can.

Not really, sure you can open a banking product such as a credit card or savings account and request the bank to setup a DD on your behalf, but you can't do it yourself*, and I've not seen a bank allow it between current accounts, which is what the OP is talking about.

(* - by this I mean using internet banking)
