LA is awful.
Cheap hotels are in El Segundo, the place to be is Santa Monica.0 -

Ideally would like breakfast to be included in the price.
Looking at around £800 each including flights and ideally including transfers. For 9-14 days.
Suggestions please!
Forget hotels for that many
Look at VRBO0 -
Lots of good advice but the OP seems to have disappeared0

I stayed in the Days Inn Hollywood & that came with breakfast. A 2 min walk to the Metro, one stop to Universal studios, 2 min walk to Hollywood blvd, walk of fame, Madame Tussaud's etc. it took a while but you can get the metro all the way from the airport which will save you money.
I'd go for 7 nights max though and then go to Anaheim for Disney, although u guess you could do a coach trip there. And then do San Fran or as you have kids San Diego for the Zoo & Sea World.
Or renting an apartment off vrbo as suggested above.0 -
Ditto re renting accomodation rather than hotel-we found the hotels at low prices a bit miserable. We rented a great house for about £70 a night with 3 beds which would have suited you perfectly. we have 3 kids off different ages and sex. Got it on flipkey but there was also some good stuff on airbnb.0
