First Time Buyers - Bristol Need Advice!

Hi there,

My partner and I arein a position to buy our first home, and we want to make sure we are gettingthe most for our money and making a wise move so wed really appreciate some advice as to the kindof area that would be a good investment.

We are particularlykeen to find somewhere that is up and coming where we could work on a propertyand develop it to make some money on ourpurchase after a few years. My partner isa skilled tradesman so we are open to somewhere that could do with some work.

We are a young couplenot looking to start a family anytime soon and we want to live somewhere witheasy access to the city centre. Our budget is 200k, and we dont know whether a flat in a more expensive areaor a house in cheaper area would be a good idea? We would prefer South Bristolas it needs to be commutable distance from my work in somerset.

Any ideas would bevery welcome. As we are first time buyers we are very new to this and dont quite know where to start!

Thank you so much!

FP

    Apply to "Location, Location"?

I don't mean to sound flippant, but the question is quite broad and requires professional or at least thorough knowledge of the area in question.

  • I wouldn't bother with a new build flat - they haemorrhage value.

If you want a flat buy in Clifton or Redlands. South of the river Totterdown, Brislington and Bedminster are all worth looking at. Come and visit the area and decide what you want.

Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
  • As we are in the early stages of buying at the moment we just want to know what kind of areas in Bristol are likely to increase in value over the next few years or will be good places to look for developments.

Brislington/Totterdown seems like a good idea especially if they're going to build that new super speed railway which Temple Mead commuters could access?
