O2 Mobile bill £400 for data download in the UK

Options
Hi

Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience and if you were able to do anything about it.

small business (2 of us) boss got me a new work phone with o2, he is already a customer and just added my phone to his account, asked them for a deal in the region of £20/month that i could phone, text and check my emails/check internet.

that was fine until yesterday, when he got this months bill, I think its in the region of £400 and that is only from the 27th of february to the 18th of march. when he phoned up O2 they said, that the £20/month was only for line rental, and that the remainder of the charges were for downloading, however he is adamant that he asked the sales person to make sure deal internet/email access was included. I have not been outside the uk in this time and apart from checking my emails all i've looked at is twitter, bbc website ect, hav'nt been dowloading music, movies looking at anything on you tube etc. for example one of the items of downloading charges; I was on the internet for 7 minutes and the charge was over £30.

This is completely extortinate (in my opinion) just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and if you got it resolved or did you have to pay up?

many thanks

G:(

This is nonsense. Line rental always comes with some allowances.

Well, watching BBC ('streaming') can be very expensive if you don't have any data allowance or it's very small.

First you have to find out what the data allowance is and how much it costs to go over it.

You need to determine what plan package you are on and whether that is the one agreed to by your boss.

Without knowing what you are supposed to pay for and what is included in the price plan it's hard to say if the charges are correct.

It may also be the case that the phone has updated itself over network data rather than using home wifi etc etc
It's not just about the money

As Grumbler and Silk point out, you need to find out what airtime allowance is subscribed to and what that includes, you will have a statement bill through the post or be able to view online, from my seat, there is no excuse for the customer not to keep an eye on their usage during the month to save themself having a shock when the DD comes out of the bank.
  • Thanks very much for your replies

I will get him to check to see what he signed up to, he told me it had internet access etc. he just handed me the phone and i thought everything was fine

I certainly won't ever be on the internet again on the phone, its not worth the hassle

    Kind Regards

He probably has, but only with an allowance that does not suit the usage, I recently swapped my phone and at 1st thought, it seemed the device was very data hungry, but after a quick scan of the manual and a few button presses, I'm using much less than before

Just to say that line rental did not always come with an allowance. Especially for business contracts with multiple handsets.
