Virgin Mobile - Data Price Change

Received this text today......
From 22/4 our daily data usage and out ofallowance data charge will be changing to £1 a day for unlimited data. For moreinformation: virginmedia.com/datach
......and here are the various links on their website
From 22nd April 2013 we’re simplifying our mobile data charges. If you go over your data allowance, you’ll pay £1 a day for unlimited data. And if you don’t have a data allowance as part of your mobile tariff, the daily data charge will also be £1 a day for unlimited data. This £1 a day charge will give you enough data to do as much browsing, emailing and status updating as you like.
The legal stuff

If you do not wish to be bound by these changes you can cancel your contract with us without penalty. The process to be followed is set out in our terms and conditions at virginmedia.com/datalegals. Click 'Terms and conditions of service – Pay Monthly Contract' and go to clauses 5.3 and 5.4.
5.4 Non acceptance of changes: If you do not accept a change that falls within clause 5.3 you may cancel this Agreement by writing to us within 1 month of us telling you about any change, to let us know that you want to cancel
So, even though its only a few months old, can I cancel and take out a new/better contract elsewhere?

According to your post you can cancel, so I'm confused about the post :o
  • In a depressingly short space of time, Virgin Mobile have gone from a supplier I was only too happy to recommend to a supplier I would suggest you avoid at all costs. :(

i am 14 months into my contract with virgin, on a 1125 min, 5000 sms and 1gb of data.

i haven't received the text yet. is it only being sent to certain customers or will everyone get it?

anyway i have just called virgin and they confirmed that i can cancel my contract, i just need to call their cancellations dept. in the morning.

this is great news for me as virgin's reception in my new house is poor and i was thinking of buying out the contract anyway.

So how did you get on?

I also have dreadful receiption in my house from Virgin Mobile.

I got this text yesterday too and I am thinking of cancelling.

So I am assuming I don't need to pay the cancellation fee.

But what about the phone? Will they ask me to return it?

What happened when you called today?

    Thanks

they refused to let me cancel without charge. their reason being that as i havent gone over my data allowance before, the changes don't affect me. i pointed out that that if i go over in the future, the changes will affect me but he just kept droning on.

i am going to write to them and request the same, saying if they do not waive the rest of my contract that i will put in a complaint to OFCOM

Well according to the text in the original post, if you do not wish to be bound by the changes then you can cancel without penalty, looks like you have a fight on your hands.
