attempted to switch (scottish power), but had no confirmation...
this is puzzling. i attempted to switch for the first time the other day (eon/british gas to scottish power) and it all seemed to go through OK.
then, when TCB didn't track, i got a little worried.
now, over 48 hours later, still no email contact from the new company whatsoever. is this considered normal in the energy market? how hard is it to send a simple email? this is 2013...
is it normal? how long should i leave it before assuming it hasn't worked and trying to switch again?

This is only the first working day since you applied!
Give it a week or two to hear.0 -
no, i know that. i'm not expecting the switch to be complete or anything to happen for weeks.
BUT there is almost no task i complete online for which i don't receive email confirmation these days, even if it's just a standard "thanks for completing the process. we'll be in touch soon."
here, in a major transaction potentially involving where we spend thousands of pounds... nothing. i had to go back into the form screenprints to make sure i entered my email address correctly (i did).
seems very amateurish to me, and certainly doesn't give a good first impression.0 -
Still very early, but did you check your spam filter? No free lunch, and no free laptop0

yeah, checked the spam folder constantly, but no sign.
it's dreadful from a customer relations point of view.0 -
Ferris sorry to hear this, can you e-mail us at social@scottishpower.com It sounds like we don't have correct details somewhere as you should have received a confirmation e-mail. Thanks David“Official Company Representative

thanks for the message, david. i did eventually receive a welcome email, on wednesday, after switching on saturday. as a general piece of feedback, your company should really look to send an instant automated acknowledgement email in the first instance, even if the welcome email doesn't arrive until a few days later. it's reassuring to know that things have been initiated.
one slightly off-topic question: how frequently do you check and amend direct debits? i've always paid quarterly by cash/cheque/online so only ever paid for exactly what we used.
during the switch i gave the most recent annual usage stats from the most recent bills, but i anticipate usage to reduce this year. how will that be reflected in the direct debits? what will happen if we end up in credit and choose to switch again at some point down the line?
rest assured, i try to keep a close eye on our accounts and how much we are being charged, so i will be in touch if anything is awry!
thanks, and here's hoping i don't have too much to complain about0
