Does anyone know of anywhere i can get a really cheap or better still free used PC? It is for someone just learning to use a computer so i only want something very basic. I promised her one that I had in storage but then damaged it as i was checking it still worked  so i feel bad and want to find a replacement.

I've tried freecycle but still waiting to hear but Thanks
the one i had was last used in Canada. it has a switch on the back for different voltages. My OH plugged it in and switched it on without flicking this switch to set it for the UK voltage so a much higher voltage went through than it expected and it made a very loud bang. We bought some more fuses for it but it went bang again and it sounds as if its had it from what we've read.[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica]

if your lucky then its just the PSU that's blown - you can get a replacement for about £30-50.
It would costs less than £100 for someone to repair it for you, they could test it with another PSU before charging you for a new one so you would know if the fix was simple or more expensive (and hence not worth it).
You could try some charity shops - some specialise in refurbishing donated computers.0 -
If there are none on offer on Freecycle, try looking for ads in local papers or supermarket boards? In my area, old desktop PCs are often advertised for about £90-100 but sometimes really ancient ones are available for about £50.0
