    I think "cliff" was a slight exageration by the forefathers of Blackpool.

    Opposite the Cliffs Hotel is where the cliffs are....more of a steep drop to the beach.
    On old pictures of Blackpool, Uncle Tom's Cabin was situated next to a cliff, it was then flattened to make the promenade.
