Cat 6 wifi adaptor

Hi I have a cat 6 cable installed in the house but don't want to run a network cable across the room to my laptop. Can I get a wifi adaptor to fit the cat6 wall socket?

  • we have very thick walls so have a wireless router which covers the middle of the house and then cat 6 cables to the rooms which the router can't cover

So as above or a pair of homeplugs, one of which could be a wireless adapter. Neither of which need your cabling.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

What's your objection to running an ethernet cable around the bottom of the skirting board? It's a lot cheaper and more reliable than putting a wifi repeater in. Otherwise I'd say homeplug is the better option.

any old wireless routers (Cable ones are best) that you can just connect in those rooms.. where the WAN socket is where the ethernet is connected to. Used to have a US Robotics wireless adaptor that worked perfectly as this..

If the firmware doesnt support this 'out the box' then see if capable of running Tomato firmware where more options available for how they work..

Yes, presumably there's a switch somewhere in the house that your structured cabling (doesn't matter whether it's cat 5, 5e, or 6 in almost any use case you're going to come across, the key thing is it's got an RJ45 port) all routes into, just plug a wireless access point into the RJ45 and set it up then assuming the rest of your cabling is already hooked into your broadband router you're good to go.
