Hi I just recieved a phone call from a man claiming to be from windows he didnt give me his name and it was an out of area number, he asked to speak to the lady of the house i told him he was, he then went on to talk quite fast about how my comp was causing major probs with something (couldnt quite catch what he said but he did use the word server somewhere along the line). He told me to turn my comp on and press first the ctrl button then the windows button i told him that my comp was already on and that if he was indeed from windows that he would already know that it was on at this point I hung up the phone. The whole thing just didnt seem right is this a new scam of sorts and has anyone recieved a call like this.

It is a scam/hack attempt, and not a new one either.0

I get at least one a week.
Theres a competition on here somewhere where its decided who can keep them talking the longest lol
Me, I just say ;hold on a moment; put the phone to one side. And forget about it for half an hour.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Yes its a scam OP, you did the right thing in hanging up. If it happens next time, string the operator along like others have done. Ive had at most 2 but others seem to get more.0

If this is the first time you have been contacted you are lucky. If they call again tell them you have an apple mac.0

This is a scam, so do not follow any of the instructions they ask you to do.
If you feel like having fun like I did when I had this call you can pretend to be really stupid and ask daft questions and pretend to get things wrong. I got my caller in a right mood after 10 minutes when I said "does it matter if I have a Mac?"0
